Louder exhaust
Louder exhaust
Ok I have flowmaster 40series SI/DO well broken in. Well its not loud enough for me ( my tires are louder then the exhaust). Well I talked to the local exhaust shop which is the best shop on the mississippi gulf coast. Everybody goes to get there exhaust done. So I have a high opinion of what they say. I told him I would like a true dual with a X pipe and no muffler dumped before the axle. I know its going to be loud, but will it sound like crap. He told me that it would sound very backwoods and probably embarssing. I searched and didn't find exactly what I was looking for. So if anyone has this setup or knows how it may sounds opinion are welcome.
Have you thought about ditching the 4 converters and putting in 2 high flows. It will be considerably louder and not cost you that much. With the true duel set up w/o muffler it will sound decent but you will get some cackling with it.If you do that keep your pipes like 2 1/4 all the way until the tips IMO.If you use an x-pipe keep that close to the motor, not way back by where your muffler is

Ok well there it is True duals with a X pipe dumped before the axle.

Will removing the cats and running no cats make it sound bad? I have the same set-up and want it louder. I wanted to put highflow cats on but at $80 a cat I'd rather just run no cat. What would it sound like with no cats?
It will run like **** with no cats unless you get o2 simms/MIL eliminators, or whatever those things are called. I would have to say get 2 hi-flow cats on an x pipe, and then something like a dynomax race bullet (the shortest one thay make) dumped in front of the axle. That should help hide any nasty popping and also give a nice boost in power over the ****ty flows you have on now.
My buddy had a 98 with straight pipes and an h right after the axel into to 3&1/2 slash cuts and it was so loud he didnt even want to drive it home, It was the worst sound ever. He installed a set of cherry bombs to bring down the noise level and It still sounded bad.

Anything you do to flow more air will make them louder. Even putting on a new intake makes your exhaust louder. I would seriously replace the flowmasters though. They are the worst performing muffler besides mac's(which are flowmaster knockoffs). Swap it for a dynomax race bullet, and then dump it. Also if you just got rid of all the extra tubing behind the muffler, it will get considerably louder.
03 - Where did you end up getting it done at? I'm on the gulf coast not far from you in Diamondhead and have been considering a new exhaust. Would like to possibly see what they can do for my truck. Thanks
I went to Klein Muffler in gulfport (orange grove) off Dedeux rd. They can do whatever you want. If you don't know what you want talk to them. Mr. Klein has been doing exhaust work for a very................long time. I have gotten 3 different mufflers put on by him 1 on a S10 and 2 on my F150. In July I am getting them to put my old Flowmaster 40 put on my dads 04 F150. Everybody that I know has gotten there exhaust done by them. They have good prices and wonderful service. You may not get your exhaust done that day cause usally there is a waiting list. There hours are from 730am to 5 pm.
