Hands down S&B, I love mine! Youll get the better mileage, acceleration, and pulling power. I can say this b/c i have noticed it w/ mine. The sound is great too, especially if you have an exhaust system.

Thumbs up

Nice.... SOOO.. If am 'seeing' things correctly, the Volant kinda expects their square end to cover over the stock round hole?

You look to have cut out the inner fender to match the Volant design... so now the Volant butts against the fender, but has it full opening to draw air with...?

I guess another question I have would be "Is that another inner fender hole I am seeing?"

Thanks for all these details.... great stuff!

ya that is an inner fender hole you are seeing. i have a feeling im gonna dremel my inside hole out as well. more air makes me a happy boy! it should be less turbulent too. if you pull your stock air box off, you will have a little intake silencer(tube that goes from about 2.5" to 3.5" on the end of it going into the fender.) that tube goes onto that hole. it supposedly makes your intake valve noise go down, but it restricts the crap outta the air.

Hmm... thats good to know. See, I want to increase my performance, but at the same time.... I REALLY only want to improve on what they did... I don't want to hack and cut... and loose some things they've done... like keeping engine noise down. I admit, I ultimatly want an aggressive exhaust note... but I want others to hear it out the back... not me just hearin it from the engine compartment!

Thanks...

when i get mine ill install it without cutting the fender to see how much i like it. it seems that people like it without cutting the fender hole, and it gives a more aggressive tone on your exhaust. keeps it a bit lower and throatier. so dont rule it out cuz of intake noise, from what ive experienced with CAI's on my other vehicles, you can barely even tell its there if you have ur radio on at all, never noticed anything but a nice whoosh sound with the windows down and radio off. engine really doesnt get any louder at all. especially with a fully enclosed system. if you want a loud one, get one with a metal intake tube, if you dont, get one with a plastic intake tube.

I used a Sawzall with a jigsaw metal cutting blade. I think that using a Dremel tool would burn up a lot of bits or cutting wheels. The factory inner fender hole was a smaller diameter I believe with the plastic or rubber air horn on it. You have to remove the plastic/rubber air horn anyway to install the Volant. There is a hollow space air plenum in the fender well between the inner and outer fender wells for breathing air, not all of the air comes from the outer fender well hole. Be sure to cover up the two inner fender well holes that are just ahead of the air intake hole looking towards the front of the truck. Ford had a TSB about covering the holes for trucks operated in hot environments. You can either plug the holes with rubber or plastic snap caps or just cover them up with some self adhesive aluminum tape like i did. Also, BE WARNED: cutting the inner fender well will void your body rust through warranty from the manufacturer. But if you are like me, I didn't really reconsider. I apologize for the following but I have to put some legal stuff here due to the times we live in: "The photos representing the air intake modification shown are not a recommendation expressed or implied, you assume any and all risks from performing such a modification, the modification is shown as is for informational purposes only." That being said, enjoy your new Volant. I wonder how the Volant would test out on a dyno at 4000 RPM with the fender well mod? I bet it would pass with flying colors.

Yes undeaddemon the Volant now has a full match on its intake with the fender well to draw air. I tried the Volant for a while with out the fender well mod, but it left just a bit more to be desired. After I did the mod I was amazed how much better the Volant performed. As for the noise it's not noticeable on daily driving, I don't even know it's there unless I floor it.
