Oval or Round, whats the difference?

I am going to be replacing the huge stock muffler on my 05 F150 4.6L with an aftermarket muffler. Whats the difference in a oval muffler and a round muffler? I am looking into getting a Magnaflow 14416(round 14" case length,20" overall. 2.5"in 2.5"out)and a Magnaflow 11216( oval 14" case,20"overall, 2.5"in 2.5"out, center inlet offset, center outlet offset). Is there any difference in the sound? Which would you prefer? Thanks for the help.

Andrew

Round mufflers are typically 'bullet' mufflers, which really have nothing inside of them. Oval ones usually have baffles inside them to make it a little quieter (compared to bullets) and give a different tone.

According to magnaflow, there should'nt be much diff in sound between oval and round. They make diff sizes of oval and rounds for clearance isues. With round your limited with si/so. The smaller it is the louder it will be. I plan on going with the 14" round one.

What do you think a shop would charge to install the muffler and weld on a tip?
