installed magnaflow....

yesterday I went and got a si/so dumped magnaflow done for $162. When I had talked to the guy on the phone, he said he had the maggie performance mufflers in stock, and I was under the impression that I'd get one of these, meaning a chambered exhaust with plenty of resonance.

instead, I got one of these.

I didn't realize that they made the small straight through designs on the performance series, so in my mind, that's why it's so quiet. the sound is great, but very unnoticeable.

so on the way home today, I stopped my midas for advise, and the guy said it didn't matter if I had a straight through or a chambered, it wouldn't be any louder than it is now because of the 4 cats.

so Im stuck. is there any truth to this?

I would agree with him, my Cherry Bomb Extreme SI/DO is loud enough to rattle the windows in my garage & I only have two cats. I hear alot of people on here dropped off the last two cats. If ya want her louder lose those last two cats..

would I still pass emissions? I hate how this is going to get expensive on me. I thought I'd be done after getting the maggie.

On the way back, I saw my exact truck, and it sounded NICE. so I know it can be done...

I dunno. It just seems to me that a chambered muffler would be louder on our trucks than a straight through. like, gibsons are straight through and are quiet.

I would be happier with the straight through muffler. It should have less restriction and you might see a net horsepower increase. If you really want louder drop the rear cats and get high flow cats installed for the remaining two.

I did see an increase, especially down low. It's really nice how it just floats to speed now with basically no throttle.

as far as the cats go, where can I get replacements for the rear 2, and what would it cost me? of course I want louder.

Just have the exhaust shop remove your pre-cats & replace them with more 2.5" piping, much cheaper way to get sound than buying muffler after muffler, & it wont lose torque like gutting them will

If you have a 4 cat setup, I would ditch the last two completely and replace with exhaust pipe. For the forward two cats I would replace those with high flow cats from Magnaflow or someone like that.

Im anxious to know if you would pass emissions also. Why are there 4 CAts anyway, seems like overkill to me..

I know that my truck is an LEV (Low Emissions Vehicle), which would explain the 4 cats. On troyers website, it says that I can completely ditch the 4 cats and get 2 high flow magnaflows, which are like $80 each. that sounds good to me. I am guessing they wouldn't say that if it weren't legal also...

and also...how come everyone on here is paying ~$300 for the magnaflow 24" muffler when I paid 162 installed for one that apparantly has great sound and performance? are the 16612/4 mufflers really that much better? hows the sound compared to mine? I hate all these questions...

I changed my mid-pipe on my mustang which had 6 cats to an MRT catted h-pipe. The owner of MRT works closely with ford and designed the Mach I. MRT uses 2 hiflow cats from magnaflow to build their mid pipes. I have never heard of any emissions problems and also no engine light problems from magnaflow cats that I have heard of from other venders.

i don;t think you really have to mess with the cats. i left all 4 of my cats alone and had a si/do MCO muffler installed and it sounds great. it has a nice rumble, good tone, without being too much or obnoxious.

I'll see what I can do. I dont have a soundcard right now so it's hard for me to know if it comes out good or not....

on a side note, my tailgate was stolen last night, right outside my window. and I dont even live on the bad side of houston. I'm really pissed. a few months ago I was parked in the same spot with my ranger, and someone stole my toolbox, full of my tools. there's no where else to park, and the cops here dont give a damn. ::sigh::
