Installing Magnaflow 16614 right now.

HOW IN THE HELL do I get the old system off my truck. The instructions read to unbolt the clamp fastening the muffler to the catalytic converters. ( I did that, one clamp about 18 inches away from the muffler) Then it says to "unbolt the remaining clamps on the tail pipe, then disengage the welded hangers from the OEM rubber insulators and extract the system from the vehichle" Well, there was only one clamp in front of the muffler, none on the tailpip, now what? The welded hangers wont slide out of the rubber insulators. Should I completely take off the rubber insulators from the frame?

If the hanger from the exhaust is stuck in the rubber...spray some WD40 or the like in there and they should slide out. If you mean something else then sorry i'm lost. Good luck.

I found it the easiest to unbolt the hangers, and soak them with some sort of penetrating lube. Dont know what year you have, but on my '06, the muffler and the tailpipe was one whole unit. Hope this helps.

Ok, it's done, it took about 3 hours but I wanted to be careful and do everything right ( I actually caught myself doing things 2 or 3 times over). Anyways, the install wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. After reading these boards I was prepared to be faced with the same problems that others had. The only things that were a hassle were:

1. Connecting the Driverside tailpipe as close to the muffler as possible. It seemed like it was too short and wouldn't reach, but that was only due to the fact that the OEM rubber insulators that were mounted on the frame were too far away, and when you pushed the hanger from the pipe through it, it stopped short of the muffler. What I did to fix this was I loosened the clamp immediately in front of the muffler and brought it to the tailpipe. I still had enough slack left over to tighten that front clamp back down and onto the muffler.
2. Driver side rear hanger. The bracket supplied with the kit is poorly made. When mounted, it doesn't sit flush with the frame because the hole that you drive the screw through, and through the frame, is too low. This wasn't a major issue but it seems everyone here has had the same problem on this install.
3.The tip on the passenger side sticks out too far out the back. I pushed the tail pipe and twisted it as far as I could but it still seemed to have too much sticking out. I had to bring the tip on the driver side [OUT] to match the length pf the passenger side.
4. The instructions and pics look like a third grader drew them up. The instructions are very vague and the pictures were black and white and unclear.

With all this said. My truck sounds bad f'n ***! When I first cranked it up I was like Holy cow! I was in no way ready for what I heard. I let it warm up for a little bit, then took it for a spin. The response is out of this world, and I can actually tell the gain in horsepwer/torque. I plan to do a little tweaking on the adjustments later on. All that I have left to say is that I am thoroughly impressed with the results. I am extemely happy and the guys preachin the Magnaflows on this board were right on. I will have some pictures in the morning.

Welcome to the Magnaflow club! I've been very happy with my choice. I almost went with Flowmaster, but after hearing the pros and cons, I went with the Maggies and have been happy ever since!!!

While on the subject of Magnaflows, what would be the best one to use on a 03 f150 5.4l fx4? I want something that sounds throaty and powerful, but not obnoxiously loud.

I got my kit (part#16614) from performancepeddler.com . At checkout I used coupon code "forum2up" for a discount. The price went from 518 to 374 and some change with free shipping. The only problem I have is the rear hanger brackets are crap and the tailpipe on the passenger side sticks out too far. In the morning I plan to take it by a muffler shop and see if they can bring my tips back in under the bumper.
