while you wont get the maximum sound potential out of just a muffler, that is one way of making your truck louder. and yes its legal to just install a new muffler. i recomend flowmaster 40. unless you plan on doing alot of towing, then you should probably get a magnaflow.

who cares about legal... but straight pipes with cats wont be ridiculously loud, but it will sound really good, and its legal.

Flowmasters origional 40 gives some drone & nice tone, Super 40 deepest tone & loudest, Delta Flow 40 is the quietest with just about no drone and low interior noise.

if your keeping the stock mid way pipe you will need a 2.5" muffler with the inlet being offset to the side, and the outlet being centered. and just clamp on a dump tip ( turn down ) and you will be set, and also eliminate the ugly stock tip

hmm, flowmaster 40s would be the most common thing to do. they are loud. but look into aero mufflers. even though they are expensive imo, the are very loud especially if you dont have a cat. and dont fall for their resonators, they make the truck considerably more quiet. or you could get a glasspack.

how would a glasspack sound on a v6?

i have a 96 f150 and i have a lot of fan nois coming from the engine, and i wanted to make the exhaust louder to drown some of that out and for a better sound. would a glasspack fill that need.

With the Force II being a 50 series & the 50 series mufflers are larger than the 40s, they are a bit quieter, they can still roar & be heard, but they will give less interior noise/highway drone and the neighborhood can still sleep peacefully while your driving in the streets

Sure, or you could run no muffler and it will be louder, though if you are required to run a muffler then go grab a glasspack
