Flowmaster 40 vs 50 on a 5.4L V8

I have a 2006 5.4L V8 XLT Supercab and want to put either the flowmaster 40 series or the 50 series on and have that dumped in the rear. I really do not want a loud drone while driving on the highway since I do a lot of business calls on the phone will driving to and from work. I want a loud system on the outside, but not loud enough on the inside that I cannot hear people on the phone while cruising. I am just wondering how loud is the drone within the cab with the 40 series and if the 50 series is worth it.

If you don't want drone in the cab I wouldn't go with the 40 series....well specifically the original 40 series. There is alot of drone, but personally I don't care and I am used to it. Dumping it will also make it louder in the cab, but with the 50 series maybe not so much. I have the original 40 series dumped and if you don't want drone I wouldn't go that route. I would go 50 series or possibly a larger magnaflow for some outside sound and keeping it quiet inside.

yea if you dont like the drone than dont get the 40, although it is not really loud enough to interupt a phone call or anything......series 50 seems like the way to go for you.

I've had both, the super 40 SISO, resonated like a bitch all day long on the freeway, was cool at first, got old fast. Now I have the 50 series SIDO, and it's not as loud, and has only a minor resonance at around 55 mph, but it's nothing to complain about though.

My 40 series (American Thunder) wasn't as loud as I hoped. Really can't hear it much, but depends on what you want personally. I want it to RUMBLE.

I Just bought the 50 series flowmaster deltaflow si/so and dumped it. It sounds great at idle but at crusing speed, its really not that loud. Im going to agree with ws6_guyscrew and say you def. want the 50 over 40 series.

I noticed a lot of the replies are from 10th generation F150 owners (97-03) But the thread poster has a new truck. Will the soundproofing of the newer f150's help at all on the freeway? I had a 2000 F150 in my sig, and picked up an 06 lariat yesterday and I'm leaning towards flowmaster 40 series. Any difference in sound in the cab between the newer and older trucks? Thanks

Same here. Had both, and will stay with the Flowmaster 50 with SI/DO.

If you're gonna change to a dual exhaust, why bother with the 50? it's for grannies..
Get the 40 series -the super 40 puts the sound at the back and minimal drone in the cab unlike the original 40

HANG UP THE PHONE AND DRIVE!!!!!

I had an 04 SuperCab 5.4 and ran a SI/SO Flowmaster 50 SUV. Sound was OK but I always wished for a little more rumble.

I traded for an 05 SuperCrew 5.4 and this fall had a SI/DO 50 Delta Flow installed. When I went to pick it up at the shop the manager followed me to the truck. I thought he was just doing customer service but when i fired that baby up you should have seen the smile on both our faces. It really has a very nice low pitched rumble. It does not drone like some of the 40's but when you mash the gas you know it is there.

I recently got my XCAL 2 and Troyer tunes and the exhaust sounds even better.

If you want a real nice Flowmaster sound then 50 Delta Flow is for you.

I would also say go with the 50 series. When I first had my exhaust installed I had the 40 series. It lasted on the truck for about a week and then I had it swapped out for the 50. I don't understand how some of the people here running the 40 series can honestly say there is no drone. With the 40, you will always hear that exhaust and highway is just annoying IMO. If you do a lot of highway driving, I would definately stay away from the 40 because you will have this drone. Get the 50, I think you would be happy with it.
