Aem or Volant

Aem or Volant

I was just wondering if there was any difference in getting a sealed intake kit like volant or getting one like AEM. Or is it just for looks.

sealed will keep out hot engine heat, which is the whole point of an intake. get a volant

I disagree very much with this statement. Mike has proved it over and over again through R&D and dyno sessions that an open filter element (AF1) makes more power than the Volant. And as for keeping the intake charge cooler with a closed system, only at an extended idle with the vehicle sitting still...Facts, facts, facts....

the only reason an open element shows more power is because the hood is open and cool air is being blown on it. Now close the hood, drive in 95* traffic, and you will feel the difference. I had an open element and went to the volant, I never have heat soak in traffic anymore

Its personal preference..I ran an open CAI on both my 01 Lightning and 03 Cobra and I run one on my 04 Screw. Have dynoed all three with both styles and know that the open style produces better numbers. While vehicle is in motion the temperatures under the hood are no higher than the air you are drawing into a Volant or any other style closed system. I am willing to bet that if you installed an AF1 or any other quality style open system on your truck that your numbers would improve also....Too many R&D sessions to convince me of changing my opinion as facts are facts...

Yeah... But when im having fun with my pedal, its usually under 60mph, and at stoplights where heat builds up, but it is personal preference...

But as Built54 stated that your dyno numbers are on a vehicle sitting strapped to a machine with the hood open in a climate controlled room. Could you perform those test as requested with say 95-100 degree ambient temperture, a closed hood and of course a hot engine. I'm not trying to discredit anyone but as you say facts are facts.... The volant does have its critics but from my use it works as advertised.

I never stated the the hood was open and fans were positioned on the vehicle. They were at one point, but not on all pulls on either vehicle. We were doing R&D on them and at one time or another the hoods were down but not locked shut as we had to have enough space for the pendant and probes to be attached to the engines.. R&D dynoing is a little different than a normal type affair....some pulls are made with the engine at normal operating conditions and some with total heat soak as you are looking at all aspects of the engines performance under varied conditions...

built54, im like you, i got my 77 series on friday and already took it off to send back. Id like to get an enclosed system. Im lookin the the volant, banks, and s&b. the reason i ditched the 77 series was the amount of dust, debris and water my engine bay seems to see, i was worried w/ the open air filter. what do you think about the banks compared to the volant you have?

Id say its about equal... The one time i went through an automatic carwash with my open element, my truck stalled, sucked all kinds of water in from the under jets... kinda sucked

hum. .i guess its a good thing i ditched it. I just noticed all the water spots and mud and lately the amount of snow i saw in there. Im thinkin ill try the banks if they will come down off their 460 dollar price tag, if not its volant.

I probably will end up w/ a volant. Im thinking they wont do much about price, but idk till tommorow.
