Question Dump the exhaust

Hey guys i was going to get a magnaflow 15608 for my 97 expedition with a 5.4. I read about all you guys dumping your exhaust at the rear axle. What is the point? Does it make it sound louder? Is there any performance gains?
Thanks for any help.

Yep...a little louder sounding. I'd be careful with the expedition though....because the fumes could get inside...with the truck bed you dont have to worry as much cause its dumping out way behind the cab. I dont see how there could be any performance gains though.

Yea, mine sounds a lot better, in my opinion, and there are no tips.
