Ok, well we went to the exhaust shop today and was talking with the guy, and to do a DI/DO Flowmaster setup on my truck ('95 I-6 300) was gonna cost around $475.. So, I told him I was thinking about that or Magnaflow, and he recommeded me the Magnaflow.. He said they're alot better quality than the Flows are, and I notice that alot of people say the Mags' sound better than Flows do and don't have a bad drone in the cab.. Anyways, me and my dad just decided we're gonna do the exhaust ourselves, and I'm going with Magnaflow.. I was going with DI/DO, but since we're doing it, to make it easier I'm going SI/DO.. Will that still sound good? It would just make it alot easier for us.. So we'll buy a Magnaflow muffler, have him make us the pipes for it, and we'll find some dump tips.. So what dump tips do ya'll recommend and what type bend? And where's the best place to find a Magnaflow SI/DO muffler?

Or what about the IMCO exhaust? 'cause I listened to an F-150 V-6 with the Magnaflow and IMO it sounded like crap.. Here's a link to the IMCO exhaust I found, and IMO I really like the sound of this one.. What do you guys think?

WOW. That's good that you are going with the Maggie! As far as the Mag Muffler use this link and find the muffler you want:[url]http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/02muffler.asp[url] Now I have an 18" muffler in the 5" X 8" oval. The smaller you go the louder it will be.

Now as far as having the dump, try to keep it away from the center of the truck due to fumes. Now if you like having your windows down in nice temps, you'll get the fumes in the cab at idle. I have the Maggie 16616, and the tips come out just behind the passenger side rear seat on the side just like the Lightning exhaust.

Thanks for the help man! So in your opinion, which muffler do you think I should go with? 'cause I want it kinda loud (but not to loud so it wont sound like crap) and not to quiet either.. So idk.. I don't know a whole lot about this stuff yet.. lol.. So 5" x 8".. Is that 5" height, and 8" width? 'cause that's what I take it as.. I was thinking of either that, or the 5" x 11"... SI/DO.. And $98 aint bad at all for that either!

The 5x8, yes is the way you see it. The 5x8 is quite, but not silent at idle. If you do not want the cops to hear you at idle then the 5x8x18 is the way to go. If you do not care if the cops hear you the I'd go with maybe something smaller, like the 4x9 or even the 5x8x14 http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=629 that is part # 14218. Good choice on the Magnaflow. The only good sounding 6's I've heard were running Mags. Flowmaster is louder, but doesn't sound nearly as good. Kinda like those annoying ricers. If you want to dump it, do it back by the axle just to make sure you don't get any fumes in the cab.

 

Yea that's what I had planned on doing 'cause I noticed that's where everyone dumps them.. So with the dump tips, can we just weld them onto the end of the muffler, or do we need to get a peice of pipe welded on before the tips to extend 'em further back or what? Make any sense?

I vwouldn't go SI/DO, My 5.4L F250 has that with a Flowmaster 40, it sounds good on a slow take off & idle, but on a hard take off sounds like a diesle sorta, basically what i'm trying to explain is its louder than deeper ( i'm all about deep toned ) just my opinion

 

But shouldn't your F-250 sound like a deisel? Or is it a gas engine? lol.. JW.. But see everyone's saying the Magnaflow is quieter than the Flowmaster.. I know I wont go with a 5x8x14 muffler, maybe a 5x8x18, or the next size up.. idk.. Which one do you guys recommed? 'cause I don't want it real loud and sound like crap, and I don't want it quite where you can hardly hear it.. idk how to explain it I guess.. Just a deep tone and somewhat loud, but not to loud.. lol

 

yeah, its got a gas 5.4L in it haha, with different cats than an F150 has it sounds a little louder than an F150 would.

Yeah Magnaflow would be a good choice. Good and quiet on the idle, but when you want it loud just give it some gas & enjoy it. I'm not too sure which Magnaflow mufflers to go with, I'm not too educated on the different Magnaflow mufflers, I'm about Flowmaster haha.

 

3/4 ,1 tons with the 5.4 come with 3" piping versus 2.5" for the 150's-phil

 

Well, with that said. I'd go with the 5x8x18... That's what I have and it's just PERFECT!!! It seems that is what you are looking for.
