Dumping at the axle

ok so a buddy of mine says he may be able to get me a Flowmaster Super 40 for free, and since it will be awhile before I can get True Duals it wont hurt to try it, But just like the true duals, I plan to dump them at the axle ( 2.5" inlet/outlet mufflers ) so let me ask my questions now, I do not know the exact dimensions of the Super 40 but i'm going to will dump it at the axle, how long of a tip? 6"s? 9"s? how far into it do i have the pipe bent down to dump? any opinions appreciated.

Also, I do not know how the muffler exits, centered, or off-set, but what would be best? i'm thinking centered would, I do know that the in-let is offset.

The tip can be as long or short as you want it. Just make sure it goes out past the cab of the truck, and is pointed down and away from the cab. That keeps the fumes out.

Thanks for the reply, ok good to know

I dont know if I should mount it flat or sideways like a true dual setup, would it be best to install it laying flat? and does off-set or centered have anything to do with it?

Nice setups, thanks for the pics guys. Should any Napa or any autostore sell a dump pipe?

will having a dumped exhaust hurt my low end, compared to having it exit out behind the rear tire in the stock location, where you dont lose any low end?

^^^ And ive said it before, but this guy got the hook ups on those badass hangers and welding job.

See with this setup, to get better flow characteristic, you want both ofset or both centered etc. Ideally you would have both the inlet/outlets to be ofset so you can turn the mufflers upright, or if they are too tall for the clearance under the truck, if they are both ofset you can lean the top of them so the are like / / that instead of l l

NOO idea what your talkin about? I like the look of my turn downs better than that other option. but thats my opinion. I know a bunch of people around here that have the exact same setup from the custom exhaust place around here and love it, and never have any problems. most of them dont even have turn downs. Ive never had any clearance issues, but im not really sure what your saying?

I just installed a Flowmaster original 40 series single in/dual out muffler dumped before the rear axle a couple weeks ago and it sounds badass. Only problem was finding ways to connect the 3" inlet of the muffler with the original stock 2.5" pipe size. I purchased the flowmaster venturi reducer cone, but don't be fooled cause they don't fit right so i had to buy some extra stuff to make it work, but its still awesome sounding! I recommend.

Better flow characteristics, b.c you dont have all the bends to get you over the axle, and around the spare tire, and what not.
Also just sounds better, louder, and to me its more "believable" sound. Like the sound of the engine is coming from under the truck, and not its *** end. Idk maybe its just me tho on that one.

well dual side exit before the rear wheel, is essentially the same thing. just the tip is turned 90*
But imo i like the look of no pipe exit, especially on a lowered truck.
