which muffler?

I have a 4.2 1998 f-150. On my last truck i had (bronco ii), i had a glass pack on it which rumbled at idle, but sounded rice at any rpm higher than idle. Any way to make my new f-150 have a throaty sound through out the power range? dont want it overly loud tho, so i was thinking about a flowmaster, would that satisfy my needs?

Flowmaster 40 series or 50 series if you want quiet.

Exclamation

Different strokes for different folks, but if you do some searches you will see Magnaflow is the most favored exhaust for the f150, and flowmaster has consistently LOST hp/tq for many owners.

The flow through mufflers (Borla, Mangaflow) do sound ricey at a higher RPM on the 4.2s...The Flowmasters sound decent though.

Do a search...not one, not two, but several.

This isn't exactly news or anything, Flowmaster=noise. For some people though, it's perfect, so hey, whatever you like!

Sorry, I have to dissagree on losing power/Tq with the flows.
It is all about sound. Either way, mufflers add a very minimal increase in HP and TQ.
IMO both the magna flow and flowmasters sound good, its just a matter of personal opinion on what you think a truck should sound like.
I like my flowmaster 40 series 2.5" in 2.5" out.

There is, yet again, a very small torque loss with flowmaster but also a small increase in HP numbers. Magnaflows straight through design are more prone to raspy ricer sounds just becuase of the way they are made.....and they are overpriced IMP

Actually the magnaflow's only sound like ricers when they're on ricers, just like flowmasters when they're on ricers. Flowmaster and magnaflow each have a distinct sound on a V8. I feel flowmasters sound more metal clappy since there are baffle plates inside and magnaflows sound deeper. JMHO

i decided on the magnaflow. Which one do you guys prefer? Also anyone know the dimensions ( off sets and tubing diameter), because im just going to cut the old stock long one out and slip the new one in using the same pipe.
