which muffler?
which muffler?
I have a 4.2 1998 f-150. On my last truck i had (bronco ii), i had a glass pack on it which rumbled at idle, but sounded rice at any rpm higher than idle. Any way to make my new f-150 have a throaty sound through out the power range? dont want it overly loud tho, so i was thinking about a flowmaster, would that satisfy my needs?
The flow through mufflers (Borla, Mangaflow) do sound ricey at a higher RPM on the 4.2s...The Flowmasters sound decent though.

This isn't exactly news or anything, Flowmaster=noise. For some people though, it's perfect, so hey, whatever you like!
Sorry, I have to dissagree on losing power/Tq with the flows.
It is all about sound. Either way, mufflers add a very minimal increase in HP and TQ.
IMO both the magna flow and flowmasters sound good, its just a matter of personal opinion on what you think a truck should sound like.
I like my flowmaster 40 series 2.5" in 2.5" out.

There is, yet again, a very small torque loss with flowmaster but also a small increase in HP numbers. Magnaflows straight through design are more prone to raspy ricer sounds just becuase of the way they are made.....and they are overpriced IMP

i decided on the magnaflow. Which one do you guys prefer? Also anyone know the dimensions ( off sets and tubing diameter), because im just going to cut the old stock long one out and slip the new one in using the same pipe.
