Performance exhaust without the BARK ??

Hey all- looking to upgrade the exhaust on my rig. How about performance gains with minimal increase in loudness ? Whats up with all the "my truck isn't loud enough , blah ,blah , blah" nonsense ????? Is this site devoted to high school kids in the deep south or what ?
So now that I've offended all the people under 30 years old, are there any adults out there that can offer some real world solutions to wanting a perfomance exhaust that isn't obnoxiously loud ???
Thanks for the input -

Roush legal exhaust.....has a rumble when it starts cold, but then simmers down to very similar to stock when the engine warms up in about 2 min's. Looks fantastic with those chrome dual pipes, and is a high quality alternative to stock. I'm very happy with mine.

I have a flow master and if you ask me it is quiet. I am comparing it to a friends dodge who has the same thing. I have heard magnaflow doesn't have the bark of flows but my experience is limited to flowmasters.

Yeah...your stock exhaust. 90% of the people who put an aftermarket exhaust on are after the sound. If you want quiet, then get the biggest Mangaflow muffler you can find.

Deskinsd - what muffler do you have? I have the original 40 series, and it's a lot quieter than the Dodges because we have 4 cats, they have two.

The guy at the muffler shop just said the 40 series was what I wanted so I don't actually know which one I think it is an original 40. I just had the stock exhaust cut out and the flow put in its place. It dumps out about 2 ft after the muffler I cut the rest off mainly just for looks. I am thinking about trying out the magnaflow siso systems in the future though.

Get the numbers off the bottom of it..it should be like 17226. Get them and we'll figure out what muffler you have.

What?
Offended folks less than 30?
What about those of us from the South?
We may very well have a great resemblance to that remark!!!!!!!!!!

I will get the number off my flow master in the next couple days it is raining on and off here in michigan where I live. I don't have a paved driveway or a garage either, so until it drys up I have to wait.

I would say that my K&N (JBA) is probably louder than you want, but seems to have good gains in power, by comparison because we may only be talkin about 5-10 hp (flywheel). Flowmasters I hear are all noise, 40 series muffler that is, so maybe go with a 50 or 70 series. Another option would be Dynomax, a bit quieter than my JBA. Ford's don't really get loud, next to Dodge's. If you keep single in single out, may quiet things down more so than twice pipes. Hard to say, I like the noise and everyones different. Gotta get something that looks good too, nice polished stainless tip or something.

id recommend magnaflow and JBA. quieter inside the cab, moderate sound on the outside. not quiet at WOT but how often are you gonna be at WOT?
