Has anyone ever built there own air intake sytem? I was considering it and not having to spend $250 on a K&N air system. Just a thought, maybe with some constructive criticism i might attempt it and post pics.

What do you mean when you say that you didn't know any better? Did that affect the truck in a harmfull way? I have already done the air box mod and it seemed to have helped a little but was debating the silencer mod and didn't know if that would do anything to the truck.

 

That was before I discovered the benefits of an AF1, which, since I no longer have that truck is in the Classifieds

Nothing really wrong with those mods on a pre-04, just don't expect a lot ( except the savings on filter replacement). On a 04+.. different story.

Well, I'm kinda slow, being prehistoric & all. I also like to take my time, and with the inevitable friends walking over to see what's up, it consumed most of an afternoon and most of a case ....

reminds me - I still have that K&N drop-in I used with that mod kicking around. Pristine. I'll have to put it in the Clasifieds - it'll be cheap

I built one for my dakota before I bought my superduty. Used an aftermarket filter(K&N) and sch 40 PVC pipe. Worked very well and only had about $40 invested in it
