I'm in the market for a CAI. And I can not make my mind up on one certian kit. I'm torn between Troyer, JLT, K&N, AEM, FRAM and all the one's on EBAY. I'm trying to maintain a budget. I have seen all the ones on ebay, but I have not seen anyone post and performance gains. Does anyone have any performance #'s?

You are just sucking hot air from under the hood. Maybe you could fab up some sort of airbox to go around the filter with weather stripping to seal against the bottom of the hood, and draw air from a cooler place.

 

I have been wondering about how cool the air is, like Brian (post above me) mentioned. How much better will this "$39.00" intake work than just slapping a K&N into the stock air box?? A lot, a little or not any better at all??

 

Yes,Yes I agree with Brain on that I was comtemplating on how to fab up a box myself I think it could be done fairly easly and inexpensive,maybe sheetmetal or a ,heavy plastic and the weather striping. well u sure got my wheels turning I just might give it a stab.thanx good post up

 

I think I am just going to put a K&N in the stock air box and call it good.

 

i don't know about those airboxes i mean your only gonna suck hot air on the intial takeoff. once your going theres gonna be fresh airflow in the engine and around the filter. i think there will be greater gains over the drop in cause your getting a nice easy bend intake tube that isn't pinched flat like the stock one. who knows maybe i'm wrong but its worth the try i mean 39 bucks come on. i have a drop in k&n right now so i tell you how it goes when i get the kit

 

I have ben thinking about the cold intake vs. the K&N drop-in. Let me know how it goes.

 

Actually, I wonder if the air filter from that $39.00 ebay seller is the same size as the K&N drop-in for the stock air box?? If so, one could always try the $39.00 ebay CAI out, and if you didn't like it, just put your stock air box back in and drop the new filter in the stock air box. I doubt one could get that lucky though.

 

Anyone run one of these on a dyno to see what it does to your F/A?

Speaking for myself, I'd rather leave my stock system in place instead of putting on a POS $40 UNTESTED intake of unknown quality, performance and safety on a $40K truck...

BTW - I have a pristine AF-1 for sale in the Classifieds for a '97-'03. The Real Deal - not a knock-off.

ok so i got the kit today. no instructions, kinda figured but not a big deal. start taking off all the stock stuff and realize it's missing a clamp, so i find one that i have lying around, ok good. so i get to the vacuum hoses, there not big enough(diameter) so i have to tweak and cut and use other tubing that i have lying around, ok thats done sheesh. then i get to the air filter, i pick it up and pull it out of the plastic and the metal end falls off....what the freeg, i see glue but its all dried up and i also notice that its slightly torn away from the metal ring on the other side.....ok so basiclly the filters junk cause it has a hole that can suck dirt..greeeeaaat. so after mexirigging it all up i decide to take it for a quick test run..... .... its slower... i couldn't help but laugh as i just wasted 40 bucks and an hour of my time. so yeah its pretty much a waste of money don't buy it.. i learned my lesson, atleast i only wasted 40 bucks huh. so back in goes the k&n drop in

 

i would really like to see some dyno #'s. i don't know about you guys but i can't seem to find anyone to calibrate my seat of the pants dyno. there has to be some techno-jerk out there dying to do this.
