Are straight pipes illegal or are they legal in some states?

Since removing cats is a violation of Federal law, straight pipes are illegal everywhere. You will also find that every state has a law regarding the use of a muffler, or at least a spark arrestor on the exhaust. To answer your question, straight pipes are not legal anywhere.

Just dont get pulled over Most of the time if you take it to a shop to get it installed, theyll inspect your vehicle so you dont have to go through the hastle at the dealership.

Hey KingT, what did you decide to do about the straight pipes? If you went with straights, what do you think about them? I just replaced my factory muffler with a straight pipe. I was actually disappointed in the sound. It is to quite, but it has a really nice rumble. I've heard other '97-'03 F150's that are way louder than mine.

bigwhite4x4, thanks for the info. I was wandering if it's so quite because of the factory setup. I've really been thinking about making mine true duals someday. Oh, what size of pipes are you running?
