Stock Airbox or AfterMarket????

I have an 04 F150 Screw 4.6, factory 3.55's and single i/o 3" 50Series Flowmaster. 1714 SuperChips, and Troyer Pullies in near future! Maybe a Xcal2 as well.

I still have the stock airbox with a replacement K&N Filter..... Im thinking of maybe going with an aftermarket system. Problem is that I DONT understand how you get that cold air intake they advertise with a tube, and filter sucking in all the Hot A$$ air from around the engine. The Stock box may be a little restrictive but with a K&N Filter I figure it's a little less restrictive, and still pull's the cooler air from the fender.
One System that has caught my eye is the Volant System..... It's a sealed airbox, pulls air from the fender and I think you can get a connecting hose to run out to the front airdam for a "ram-air" effect.... even that has to be cooler air than whats under the engine compartment.
I have heard some good things about the AF1 systems as well, and Im all ears to hear what everyone has, and what the opinions are! Granted the price to HP ratio is a little on the exspensive side.

Thanks!
Tom

The simple fact is that you cannot get cool air from the engine compartment - the air will always be above ambient. Volant, Outlaw and IceMan are some that pull air from outside of the engine compartment. Do a search, that topic has been discussed here...a lot.

If you get any mpg increase, and I say "if" from an aftermarket intake, the cost will outweigh the increase. You'll never get a return for your money.

If you want it for looks and performance, go for it. That's what I did.
