What's that Thing

So there's a metal tube about as big around as a quarter. It goes from my catalytic converter (front/engine side) up to the top rear of my engine somewhere (didn't look real good). What is this called? It seems to be vibrating quite a bit when I drive and makes a lot of noise. Kinda wonder if it is clogged or something. It has a hose clamp on the base of it but somewhere along the line it looks like someone welded it instead. The clamp has welding over it a bit.

Code reader indicates Insufficient EGR Flow.
Look at this mess

How would you go about fixing this? If you ask me; the weld has blocked the air flow.

You are right! What A mess. Looks as though someone added the clamp to allow extra surface area for welding(or rather attempting to weld) the cracked or broken air assist tube. This tubing is utilized to port addition air into the cat. for cleaner emmissions[as previosly mentioned]. Usually this tube runs from the EGR (Engine gas recirculation) valve to the Exhaust manifold or to the upstream portion of the converter. I would replace the item with a new one. Autozone or Adavnce auto usually has these aftermarket replacement items about as cheap as you can find them. Good Luck...BoB
