haha, I was thinking the same thing. There is a reason the factory muffler has 30 different chambers, it's to keep the noise down. If you want it quiet and are worried about drone then leave it stock. If you want to hear that big V8 breathe, then put an aftermarket muffler. It's that easy.

I have the 14" Magnaflow muffler with the stock pipe SI/SO and I have little to no drone at all. I can hear it inside the cab a little bit but I absolutely love the way it sounds all together. Overall I'm very happy with my setup. I know this doesn't help you out any Nick but if I were to guess I'd say it was something with the pipes, not necessarily the muffler.

I have the Lightning style on my 04 SCrew, no drone, I have installed about two dozen other Magnaflow catbacks on trucks for customers and have had absolutley NO drone issues from any of them. I don't understand it ....maybe they have the exhaust touching the frame somewhere and you are feeling or hearing a slight vibration...but a drone????

I'm looking for the Mustang GT sound or something close to that.. Also on the highway I want it to be quiet when cruising. What model do you recommend getting?

Hmmmm, I may actually go this route. I've been thinking about just installing either the 18" of 14" muffler with the stock piping. But I was wondering if the 18" would be loud enough in that configuration.

You don't happen to have a sound clip of yours do you roushlimited?? Also, do you have the part number for that 14" muffler??

Thanks.

As to the question of why am I complaining after putting on an aftermarket exhaust and what was I expecting, I was actually expecting it to be similiar to Roushlimited's and per chance a bit quieter. Why? Because I rode in his truck going up and down dunes with a 14" muffler that had zero drone. Also, I have had 3 other vehicles with Magnaflow's on them and none of them droned. So by golly maybe I was a touch surprised to get a freaking drone. I am not stupid people, please do not refer to me as if I am.

As to the truck, I agree that the 1700-2000 RPM range is just where this trucks drones. I have accepted that and now am planning on a full sound deadening with some Second Skin Damplifier. In the interim I live with it droning. I have heard it both ways on the new body style and as some people have a shudder in 4th with the Edge (I got lucky on that one) or the vibration issue ( I got lucky again) I drew the drone card. It happens. I was hoping to see if others had come across the same problem and hear what they had done about it. Plus I live in the city equivilent of a police state here, so it hightens the anxiety a bit.

For those that helped, thank you I appreciate it very much. I will get around to the sound deadening this fall after my move and it cools down a bit and I'll fill in on the sound and post some fun pic's like Styxnpix did of the ineriotr being yanked.

As for sound clips, I am sorry but I don't have any. My camera does fine with pic's but the sound quality sucks.

I also went with the Magnaflow 14" muffler,stock pipes,and it sounds awesome.Very deep rumble,MUCH louder than stock. Flashbang 756,the part# is 14216 for a stainless. 2,5" Center/center. I will try to post a soundclip.

OK, I just finally got around to installing my 16612. And Nick, I see what your saying. It is considerably louder than stock inside the cabin. But, that's usually only when I'm at WOT or in the area of 1500-1800 rpms. Usually just cruising, I don't hear it as much.

But, it's also still pretty new to me. So I think after a week or two, I'll probably get used to it and not hardly even notice it's there.

Nick your not alone. I get the drone that you are refering to. And it about the same rpm range. At highway speeds though I can just hear a low rumble. I only get the drone under real slow acceliration where the truck hangs around that rpm range. How to fix it I do not know.
Just letting you know your not alone.
