Exclamation Jba Headers Installed - Problems

Hey guys... Need some major help here... Instaled the Stainless steel SHorty Headers on an 04 F150 5.4L 3V SCAB, and im getting some major leakage from the gaskets which come between the headers and block... I didn't get the gaskets that came with the headers... The ones that seem to be made of cardboard... so i used the factory ones made of steel... Leaks like nobodies buisness!! The truck is dead and won't even budge! It's like instead of adding 33HP as claimed it took them away... I just got the gaskets today and im waiting to get them installed...

Questions:

1) Will the gaskets that came with the JBA headers hold since they seem flimsy and also that they're made of cardboard..

2)Once installed will the porblem be done...

3) Has anyone faced any simillar problems..

4) Can we get a REP from JBA on this forum to help people out with these kinda tech install questions...

Thanks... need help ASAP... Any comment or advice or wisdom is greatly appreciated thanks!

My JBA's that were installed 2 months ago on my 04 5.4 came with high quality gaskets with a certain % of metal content. I'm not sure why you did not get good gaskets but got cardboard ones instead. Certaily JBA customer service could send you the proper ones ASAP. The stock ones won't work, JBA told me that.
In the meantime I suggest "Stage 8 locking header bolts" about $60...you don't want to go in there to tighten header bolts a second time, thats for sure.
Any question just ask.

My first set of JBA's came with top of the line Mr Gasket gaskets which were awesome. After a coating failure on the first set, JBA set me a replacement set of headers and a different type of gasket. I called JBA and asked what these new gaskets were made of beacuse they looked like cheap "felt". I was told that JBA was now using carbon gaskets. http://www.percyshp.com/producthomexxcarbon.html

Both gaskets supplied with the headers worked fine and I never had a leak. I used the bolts that came with the header and never had to retighten them. JBA's are awesome

Good Luck!

I used the supplied JBA gaskets as well, no problems.
Also used the Stage 8 bolts...

Question One final question...

One final question...

The gaskets that came with the headers are made of Carbon... Will those gaskets hold and take the heat?! Thats the one question i had and which was the main reason which made me look at installing the steel gaskets...

Just asking... Can someone explain the durability of the gaskets compared to the steel ones that came with the headers since they seem to be made of cardobard?!?!

ANY HELP APPRECITATED!!!

Thanks!

MiMiK check out this link. It will explain the features of the carbon gaskets.

http://www.percyshp.com/producthomexxcarbon.html This should help.

Like I said, I have had no problems with the carbon gaskets.

Has anyone seen or done dyno runs with the new headers? I would really like to know if there is a difference in power and mpg.

Why would JBA send you gaskets that wouldn't take the heat? If you use the gaskets they send you and they leak, then call up JBA and get new gaskets. Seems logical to me. The worst thing you can do is use gaskets that aren't approved by JBA.

Problem fixed... JBA gaskets installed.. Rides like a dream.. Power gains are good! Much faster in second... kicks hard into third! Fourth is still a drag! Need a new K&N intake... I feel that the stock intake with the drop in filter is not keeping up... Need a pulley next..

Quick questions..
1)Will electrical fans keep the car cool? I know they do.. But how cooL!? Considering heat gets up to 50 Celcius here!

2)Will the pulley still allow the car to be daily driven or will it be affected by the extra rotations on the motor?!?

Thanks guys!
Buy the JBA headers! They're worth every penny!!

How is the stock fan holding up? A quality E-fan kit is more effecient than the engine driven fan. Underdrive pullies actually slow down the accessories. The crank pulley is smaller but the accessory pullies, water pump etc. are smaller so things slow down. I cannot vouch for 50° C temps but I would expect things to run hotter at idle. This will add strain to your charging system and battery because the e-fans will want to run at idle to remove the heat from the rad and that draws current. Find out from your supplier how much the pullies under drive the accessories. If it is 30% then at an idle of say 750 rpm you need 225 more rpms to get back to stock water flow. The same applies to the PS and alternator.
