Question To Dump the Exhaust or Not?

I have an '05 supercrew and am considering getting a new exhaust. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with "dumping" their exhaust right behind the rear axle? Someone told me that that may be a bad idea because of the fumes may cause problems over time. I am not a big fan of tips and I thought that it would give it a clean look as well. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance.

i have mine dumped right now and I have never had a problem with fumes. i always drive with my windows open and often in traffic. i have a supercab so i think that the fumes would have a shorter distance to travel if they were going to come in. i like it because you don't have to worry about clearing the pipes or keeping them clean.

Not sure, but I think he meant the fumes causing corrosion or other problems for the underbody.

That's something I have wondered about as well. I think dumped would be the way to go for the reasons mentioned here, but the thought of some important undercarriage parts getting rotted from the exhaust makes me leery.

Maybe someone who knows more will weigh in here.

Thats what I was heading too. And like etrevino103186 said, I don't have to worry about keeping them clean either. Thanks for the info and hopefully someone else will chim in as well. Thanks in advance.

When I used to have flowmasters with tips out the back, I ended up cutting the tailpipes right after the muffler which was right before my rear axle, drove it like that for around 5000 miles, and had no problems... it sounded alot louder in the cab with the exhaust below the cab. I ended up putting pipes back on cause I was worried about corrosion or damage from the exhaust, Don't know for sure if it would cause problems though

Ive got mine dumped, ive got a pretty big turn down on it, and then on top of that ive lowered my truck, so the exaust hangs even lower compared to rear axle, ive never once worried about corrosion, then again im in Tx so ive got 90% of my undercoating still applied and functioning.

I think this one was before i lowered

This one is after lowering

Just got mine dumped right behind the muffler today. I've a flowmaster 40 series siso and it sounds great now that i had it dumped. I thought about it for a month or 2 and finally decided to do it and WOW, it sounds way louder. I like it alot. As for it causing damage, i dont know but right now i dont care with the way it sounds.

go for it man! I dumped mine, and i dont think i'll ever look back. Ive got a flowmaster 40 series and it sounds sick. Its a real deep rumble, i couldnt be happier with it. It sounds way better than with a tip. If you want to go the flowmaster route i might be willing to sell you mine with the dump and all you have to do is weld it on. Im thinking that im gonna go with tru duals dumped with dynamax bullet mufflers. If youre interested let me know.

Ive had mine dumped for almost a year now and no problems at all!! No fumes in the cab, and no problems with anything under the truck.

Ive got 2 flowmaster 40 series mufflers and probably are going to dump them as well, from what people are talking about, it would be loud as hell.
