They are great mufflers...their selling point is they are just about as loud outside as the original 40 but without the extreme resonance inside the cab...your family wont be annoyed with the Super 40....

You wont be dissapointed if you try one... Goodluck
So the original 40, and super 40 sound the same from the outside, or is the original 40 louder???

The original 40 is going be louder...the Super 40 is going to have a deeper tone to it, but it is still very audible with changing RPMs. It still has a little bit of drone, but not very much...it is only noticeable when driving around town, once you get out on the interstate or highway and start cruising, you can't hear it at all, unless you are accelerating or mash it....it even has a nice, very notcieable rumble when idleing...Great all around muffler for those who want to hear their exhaust but not go insane from drone.....

I have the Super 40 on my 5.4 98 expedition. It is a si/do with 2.5 into 3" tips dumped just under the rear quarter panels. It sounds great. Quiet when ideling, deep and throaty under acceleration, yet very quiet at 60 and up. IN fact, with the radio on not even very loud, I cannot hear the exhaust.

40 Flowmaster

I Have a 2005 Supercab Lariat 5.4. I installed a 40 series Flowmaster with all stock piping. I sounds great. I was thinking of putting a 50 but i new how the 40 sounded like so I didn't want to take my chances.
But prior, I had A 2001 Expedition and I also installed the 40 series. I wanted it louder so I went ahead and separated the tail pipes from the Flowmaster. The tailpipes were still there but just for looks. I left about 3 inches of piping after the Flowmaster and then installed elbow piping towards the ground. It makes it sound deeper and louder.
The only bad side is that it won't pass smog but all you have to do is reconnect the tail pipes back to the Flowmaster. And most of the noise will be heard in the bottom of the rear seats. But that would be the easiest and cheapest way out.

I have true dual flow masters with the orig. 40 on my 06 supercrew... I just love the sound. At highway speed 70-80 I can barely hear them I did notice a more sound when I installed the new K&N intake system. The sound is awesome during acceleration. I sure like the sound of TRUE duals on a V8.... DEEEEP GROWL.
