Arrow Letting the 460 breath...

I want to change out the exhaust on my '85, and was leaning towards dual exhust, with side exit right behind the doors...

I have a non-cat system, so I won't have any problems smogging it.

I have a stock 460 w/ 4bbl now, but it's gonna get a new carb soon, and it might see a RV cam. It'll be used for towing. Alot.

What size pipe should I go with? Mufflers?

Thanks!

Buddy of mine had an '83 F250 running dual 2.5" with 13" Cherry Bomb glass packs. Sounded mean if you like the rap under power but wasn't obnoxious cruisin around town. His ran out the rear corners (stock duals) & sounded good.

Not sure you'd want those mufflers, or any for that matter if you're under load towing a lot, exiting behind the door though.

You could also go dual 3" if you wanted to pay for it.

May I ask why?

If budget would allow (and it will someday) I'd run the pipes up the side of the cab, tractor style, and let it blow over the trailer....

DRONE. A lot. The engine is a lot louder when under load. Even more so when towing a trailer, because the sound waves bounce off of it and go right back atcha. I don't mind the sound though...

I'm hard of hearing anyway

Nice point though...

Yeah, the drone could get old after a while, but if you're cool with it go for it. Coming out the back at the corners you can definitely still hear it, but it's not quite as intense. Personal preference...

Out the back at the corners wouldn't be as bad as straight back like mine, but my 4.6 will never sound as good as your 460
