If your able to spend the money for the right pipes, borla will give you that deep bass sound. However borla is pretty costly. If your looking for something that is inexpensive and will give you a nice sound still then flowmaster 40's are the way to go. Since your asking many people for their opinion your basically opening up pandora's box but borla if you have the money and then flowmaster's if you want something durable but not expensive.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I'm going to try and do this in the next month or so and I'll report back the exact details of what is done and how it sounds.

A month isn't too long to wait... Considering I waited a year and a half. I went with the Volant... it's got a nice deep sound, but isn't super loud or a dual out. People will know your there but not coming from miles down the road, lol.

Here is a link to my personal review.

I just got a true dual system installed on my truck and it sounds great! (I've got the 5.4L 3V) I got a local shop to custom make my system with an x-pipe just before the 2 SISO original 40's series flowmasters with 3.5" tips out the back. They welded all connections and even added some extra beefy hangers since the 4wd usually rides stiffer. Nice low rumble at idle, resonates around 1700-1900 RPM and again around 2800-3000, plenty loud! Got the whole thing done for $275, I think they cut me a break cuz I hung out and shot the **** while they worked, and it took them nearly 2 hours longer than they originally told me!

Haven't gone to the dyno, but I can't really notice much, if any, difference in power. Except for maybe above 3500~4000 RPM, might be a little extra there. Haven't had enough time to really tell if there's any difference in gas milage either....

This guy said mine would be custom done as well.

This is a stupid question to most of you but what are x-pipes?

Well i went with the borla 140136 for my 06. Had a borla on my or and was the perfect sound. loud on acc and not to loud on the highway. I waited a month to buy. it did seem to take for every and now i have to wait for it to ship. I found mine on ebay item # 8058032834. they wanted 540.00 here locally and that wasnt installed. borla lists them for 607.00. this guy has a few others listed but are a little bit closer to the 500 with the shipping.

On my 03 i loved how easy it was to install in the driveway. took only a couple of hrs. Of course i cut that one off. My try to keep this one whole not sure why though. Hope this helps. I know that borla isnt the most popular choice but I liked the last one and figure i would stick with the one i know.

oh and welcome to this great site.

Take a look at the Bassani stainless. Mine is SI/SO and has just the right sound for me but if you go with the duel out I'm sure you will get a much louder sound. Of course I'm 43 and don't want a lot of noise when just sitting, but if you put your foot in it everyone will know you are there (which I love doing when next to these Jap Traps full of kids who think their 4cyl is fast). I originally had a Magnaflow SI/DO and the Bassani definately provides more low end power.

An x pipe is one piece that connects the down pipes from both exhaust manifolds or headers to the mid pipes that go to the mufflers. That's a true dual exhaust system. A SISO (single in, single out) or SIDO (single in, dual out) is a single exhaust system that uses a y pipe to connect the system.
