tailpipe differences.

I know the size of tailpipes make a huge difference in the amount of power and specifically low end torque, but does length make a difference?

For instance, lets say you are running a SISO exhaust and 3" pipe. How much difference would there be if you had it go all the way back to the factory location using mandrel bent pipes on one truck, and on another truck you had the exact same exhaust but instead have a 90 deg. mandrel right off the muffler coming out the side like lightning. Would there be any difference?

Remember both would have 3" pipes.

Or maybe you have a true dual setup with mandrel bent 2.25" tailpipes coming out the back on one truck, and 2.25" side exit turned out right after mufflers again like a lightning.

Or even maybe dumped instead of coming out in front of the rear tire.

I've read some posts that say that you get a better flow with the lightning style, or the dumped style because there is less bends. But does it make a difference in velocity?

Just curious if running full tailpipes would make a difference as apposed to a side exit.

What's your take on this?

I'm thinking that the quicker those gases get out, the more power it'll make. I do remember when my tail pipe fell off from the muffler back and it looked like what guys do to their camaro's and power seemed lower. If it works for the lightning, hey why not. The noise difference may just be worth it. My issue is having the exhaust go in front of the tire like that, 97 model year?

All in all, any difference may be so small your truck would never know. You'd only be cutting off a few feet of exhaust rravel. Maybe more pipe equals more torque? If at all possible, copy the Lightning setup, or try to go true duals for the most flow (preferred). Good luck.
