maggie exhaust questions.

maggie exhaust questions.
I currently have some cheap imco muffler on my truck with stock pipes. I paid $40 for it at the local muffler shop. I hate it, it's barely louder than stock.
I'm thinking of replacing the muffler with either a 5x8x18 or a 5x8x14 maggie.
I want it louder than it is now, but I AM NOT WILLING to lose lowend. Lowend is the most important thing, second is sound.
I'm also thinking of replacing the stock tail pipe with the single 3" maggie tailpipe. 15038 I believe.
Will I lose any lowend by replacing the stock 2.5" tailpipe with the 3" tailpipe? I would like to gain lowend if anything.
Also, with either pipe, the stock or the 3", will there be any performance difference between the 14" and the 18"? Or would the difference be just sound? If the 18" produced a little more lowend than the 14" I would get the 18" even if it was quieter. Performance is the biggest priority here.
Any thoughts??
Thanks guys.

The first thing I did was read all the info on this site about exahaust systems. Then I went to Magnflows site, good info and faq's. Also, checked Flowmasters site and got enought info to decide on the Magna. Just do your homework to see what is best for your application. So far very pleased with the Magnaflow system.

There will be no difference in low-end with the 14" or 18", just sound, the shorter the louder. This is the catback setup for your truck 3" pipe after muffler, but the muffler is a 24". You should be fine with replacing the muffler and going with a mandrel bent pipe after the muffler as they do in this system. Good luck.

I called magnaflow today, and they said just as David did. There won't be any difference in low end between either the 14, 18, or 24 inch mufflers. The shorter you go the louder it will be.
He also said that part# 15038, which is the 3" mandrel bent tailpipe has been discontinued. The only way to get the tailpipe is to get the kit. So if anybody has been thinking of getting this tailpipe, you better get it now while suppliers still have them.
So that's what I"m gonna do. Go 3" from the Y back to the muffler which will either be the 5x8x14 or the 5x8x18, not sure which one yet, into the 3" mandrel bent tailpipe.
Which muffler do you think I should go with? I want it nice and loud, but not too overbearing.
