New to post. I have been following many posts regarding exhausts looking for the right setup. I took a chance and am very happy with my choice. I went to the IMCO site and ordered on-line. I have a 2001 5.4, crew. Bought a 3" IMCO 9" Extreme (single chamber), a couple of mandrel 45's and 30's, a mandrel 90 bend, an angle tip ( all 3 inch), a 2 1/2 x 3 coupling. Cut my old exhaust pipe about 18" past the cats ( Y pipe). Installed the above and had it exit just before the rear tire. The truck performs great and sounds incredible with no drone or complaints what so ever. Best part is, it only cost me $150.00. I didn't go stainless because I figure this system is going to last at least 5 years in the harshest conditions. By then with the kind of gear head I am (and probably most of you guys), we'll be either in another truck or have some performance mods where we will rework the entire power train, or you'll hung up Off Roadin. My original exhaust (5 years old) was in perfect shape. I felt guilty scraping it. If anyone has questions, you can E-Mail me. I'm very pleased with this setup.

I just cant seem to find what muffler sounds the best. I mean, everybody has their own view of what sounds good, so I guess its just take a chance. I have a catback exhuast on my 5.4 01 as well, the muffler is an Xlerator, its made for performance and sounds ok but I want a louder muffler that is great to rev, but at cruising speeds doesnt get anoying. So what your saying magco, is IMCO is your choice, and since our truck are alike maybe I should take a look into them.

Yes, I am happy. It gives a good low tone but not raspy (for lack of better terms). I was really nervous when I recieved a 9" muffler and I was removing a perfectly good but 24" +/-, muffler. The IMCO is a single chamber with really not much inside. Quite honestly, the cats muffle the majority of sound. If you want to experiment, go buy a 2 1/2 coupling and cut your exhaust pipe and run your truck. See if you like the amount of tone, then you can couple your original back together. The IMCO will refine the straight pipe sound and muffle it a little more. I haven't yet bought a tip because I wanted to see if I liked it as is or buy a tip with a resonator. I don't need any resonator. The truck idles with authority, runs and excells with a smooth tone, and when you back off the throttle it is actually quite. Most importantly is when you decelerate you get no rumble or pops or " Blah Blah, Blah, if you understand the tone I'm trying to spell. The exit in front of the rear tire is also perfect. It make the install that much easier and it sounds great for pedestrians on the side of the road.
