Flowmaster Exhaust Question

Hello Everyone. I know I am getting flowmaster dual exhaust for christmas. I wanted to know what you guys thought. I want some good sound when I am get into the truck and a rumble when I start it up. I do not want hear it to much in the cab, when I am on the highway except when I get into it. I am deciding between the standard 40 series, Super 40, or 40 series delta flow. What one should I look at. It will be for a 2000 Ford F150 V-8 5.4 liter. Exhuast is going to be coming off both corners. Please let me know.

I have the Delta Flow 40 and it is barely audible in the cab of my '88 at 70 mph.

I would say 40 series would be a little loud for your taste

i've got a 40 series original si/do on my 99 4.6 and it's more than audible when starting, when babying it, screams above 3-4 grand, and at 70 it's a nice mellow hum... which aggrivated the crap out of my mom when I first got them put on

my friend had a 50 series on his '98 4.6 that wasn't quite as loud as mine but still might bug you... not sure why you wouldn't want it loud though

I want the thing loud. I just don't want the over bearing noise in the cab. I want people to know I am around. How is it around 80??

The deltaflow technology on the 40 series aids in eliminating the interior resonance.

Check out www.flowmastermufflers.com and cruise through the pages and you'll find the audible charts and sound bitest to help you decide

I've got a 40 Series on my truck, and it's great. There is a drone at about 70 mph, but it isn't audible over the radio at a decent volume. One thing that you must remember is that a 40 series on a mustang is going to be a lot louder than a 40 series on a truck because a truck has much more tubing to drone the sound.

Also, is there anyway to tell what Flowmaser muffler you have without cutting into it?

150Lariat2000...which flow's

150Lariat,

I have a 2000 4.6. I just switched (yesterday) from a 40 delta (3in S/I-S/O) to an Original 40 (3in S/I-S/O). Believe it or not, I did not notice a difference in the exhaust tone (not yet anyway). It does take a while for the flowmaster to "break in." I have the talipipe exiting in front of the passenger side tire. I purchased the flowmaster pre-mandrel bent tailpipe kit from Summit, and had the guys at the muffler shop do all the work.

My input to you is: any of the 40 series would be good. What I hear over and over is the 5.4 may have a little "beef" than the 4.6. Good luck my friend!!!

After reviewing several forums I went with the orig 40 on my 5.4, just installed on Wednesday (12/21) as an early Christmas present. I notice some droan around 1700-2000 rpms. Other than that I almost don't notice the duals...unless I get on it! It offers a nice rumble when I keep my foot out of it (which is hard to do!) I HIGHLY recommend the orig 40!

The Flowmaster is great, but I heard the IMCO on their website today and it's tempting me.... When the flowmaster rusts away (If ever) I think I'll have to give the IMCO a try.

98Navi - I looked today on the bottom of the casting and there were these numbers that were on the inlet side: 430402 with a few smaller numbers on the top. The only numbers on the bottom with the flowmaster imprint were the Patent numbers. I can't see the top of the muffler, and I couldn't feel anything imprinted on it.
