ATTN fourpointsix

fourpointsix, what was the # on that magnaflow 14" that you said would be the volume and sound I like......also, is hottexhaust still the best place to get it you think? I want the aluminum one, probably SI/DO, 3"/2.5". What do you think the DI/DO would be like if offered?

hey its fourpointsix's cousin, anyway ive got the 14" and i run it through the stock pipe, my cousin has the 18" dumped. the volume is probaly a 9. its almost as loud as the imco. but its more of a true exhaust tone (very nice). it does have considerable drone at about 1800-2100rpm when its cold but once it warms up most of the drone go's away. anyway as far as volume goes i would put the imco 10, magnaflow 14", a 9, flomaster 40 at a 8, and the magnaflow 18" at a 6.5-7. hope this helps.
keep it ford

Higdogg, glad to here you're going with Magnaflow. I don't think you need the DI/DO unless you've got a shop that will fab up the duals for a good price. Around here it's hovering around 500 bucks and for no additional gains it's not worth it. You won't see anything beyond a SI system unless you supercharge. So I would go SI/DO if you want dual pipes. What 4.64x4 said was right, although I rate the Flowmaster 40 Series and Magnaflow 18" around the same volume. Only difference is the Magnaflow drones less. In fact, WOT it's louder than the 40. I know this is off topic but do you have the lift on your truck yet? I'm interested in seeing it once it's done!

fourpointsix and 4.6,

Thanks guys for the info. I'm real slow right now, still haven't done anything. I guess work is keeping me busy, but lately I've been shopping the internet daily for my stuff. I've decided on all that I'm getting, but haven't bought yet. So I'm going to order some accessories for christmas and really I'm just waiting to find some bangin' wheels to order before I get the lift. I'm hoping the lift prices will decrease maybe by the time I order (yeah right). The whole pricing thing is a hassle, especially since everyone online claims free shipping and to price match, but then you find handling charges. I know you guys shop around like me, is hotexhaust still the place to get the magnaflow? Also, I want some stainless tips, 2.5" inlet and I want them to be 5" out but haven't found any that big that still has a 2.5 inlet. You know of anywhere that has them? I've seen them before I swear.

fourpointsix, so why exactly do you love the 18" muffler w/ a lower sound much like the flowmaster? I thought you didn't like the flowmaster at all and it wasn't loud enough? Kinda makes me wonder about getting the 14" if your cuz says its a 9 on volume close to the imco. I just found the 14" SI/DO on autoanything.com for $81, but it doesn't list a part #, it just says 5x8x14. Not sure if that's the same muffler or not w/ the straight through design, it doesn't say.

4.6,

which engine do you have, its the 5.4 right? So your 14" is that loud? What is the gearing on your truck, mine is 3.55. Is the sound still smooth and clean like the magnaflow sound clips?

Higdogg, the 18" Magnaflow does not sound 'like' a Flowmaster. The volume level is similar to the 40 Series. It is louder than the Flow when you smash the pedal but quieter when you cruise. My cousin has the 14" on a 4.6L. You should go for the 14" on your 5.4L because it will be a little quieter but not much quieter than the 4.6L. Still louder than a 40 Series, but smoother and deeper and quieter at cruise and louder when you get on it. There is no comparison in the sound quality between the Magnaflow and Flowmaster. The Flowmaster sounds cheap and raspy at higher RPMs. The Magnaflow is deep and smooth throughout the RPM range. We all have 3.55 rear ends (mine will be a 4.56 next week!)

fourpointsix,

cool man, I'm definitely getting the 14". I was thinking your cuz had the 5.4. I suppose it doesn't matter about the volume so much, that little redneck boy in me comes out every time I watch the dukes of hazzard and hear the general lee roar down the road. I wish I could have heard that imco on your truck, nobody else on here is ever going to post a sound clip of it in real life I don't guess.

the imco website has sound clips of the 5.4 and 4.6. Have you tried there?
