Okay, I've got a 2000 F-150 Lariat 4x2 with the 5.4 Triton V8.

I want to put some Flowmasters on it, but I have no idea what size or kind, other than the fact that I want single inlet, dual outlet. I don't want the truck to be too loud, but for it to sound like a beefy rumble (or, as the Moss Motors F-150 catalog put it, "A family-friendly rumble so people will know there is a V8 under the hood") would be nice.

Anyone have any suggestions? I also need the entire purchase and installation to come to a total of around $200-$250. Is that possible?

I would go with a Magnaflow 18" muffler for your truck. It has a smoother and deeper sound than Flowmaster. I find the Flowmaster raspy.

 

If he wants flowmasters, why are you recommending mangaflows then? Let's not start this B/S again... Look into a 50 series. I've got a 40 series SIDO and it's loud, but I want it louder! Try to find some trucks in your area with similar set-ups so you can hear them. Or, try to find some sound clips.

 

BS? Try running both on your truck and tell me it's BS. I have run Flowmaster, IMCO, and now Magnaflow on this truck. I know how they sound and how they perform, respectively. Flowmaster is the weakest of the bunch in performance and sound. You can give me the 'show me the dyno graph' crap but after driving the same truck with both you can tell the difference. Or you can try looking at the design difference between the two. I'm not trying to be rude here but trying to claim that Flowmaster is on the same level or better than Magnaflow or ANY muffler with a straight through design is pure rubbish.

 

Bottom line _________ Flowmaster sounds better than any other performance muffler out there for a V8. You're looking for the 50 series muffler, maybe the one with the deltaflow technology. It got good running sounds and a nice throaty but relatively quiet idle.

damn you must have a highly calibrated butt dyno there man to be able to feel 1-10HP difrence, can i see the printout from that *** dyno?

 

Fourpoint - I'm calling it BS because he obviously wants flowmaster. If he would have wanted advice on a magnaflow or any muffler besides a flowmaster, don't you think that he would have asked???? I'm not tryint to start that dyno crap again I've heard it enough. It's personal preference.
And where in my post did I make any claims about performance???

Well, I looked around and discovered that Flowmasters only come with a one-year warranty. Then someone told me about this brand called Daytona, which comes with a Lifetime warranty.

Anyone heard of it? Is it quality?

 

BigTruck - That finally got him to shut up! I don't get it. If people ask for advice on Flowmasters, why do they have to come in and tell us about how Flowmaster sucks and Magnaflow this and Magnaflow that.

Johnny - I've never heard of it. Where can you buy it? Flowmasters are very tough, I've seen them be dragged over rocks before. It will rust away before you can destroy it. Any my Flowmaster 40 is just over a year old now, and it's not showing any signs of rust. Just a little surface rust on the welds though. Nothing major.

 

You know I'm kinda getting tired of this hating on Flowmasters myself. I understand that most everyone here drinks the Magnaflow is the best and Flowmaster sucks kool-aid. But you know what, I dont really give a damn what others think. If I want @%&#ing Flowmasters and I need some advice on them, I don't want any of the Magnaflow crowd telling me how they suck. Obviously they are doing something right because they along with Magnaflow are some of the most popular aftermarket exhaust around.

I personally have Flowmasters but when I got them it came down to them and Magnaflow. I went to the local exhaust shop that puts them on and they had DVD's of how each sounded on my particular vehicle. I chose the Flowmaster because I thought they sounded better not because I might gain a 2 or 3 horses with Magnaflow. The fact is that most people that get aftermarket exhaust are not going for the extra horsepower and performance they like the way the damn things sound. And most people that get aftermarket exhaust don't have modified intakes and programmers on their vehicles. They get them for one thing, they like the way they SOUND.

Sorry for my little rant but the guy that started the thread didn't want to know any information about friggin Magnaflows. Though I admit they are pretty good exhaust, he wanted to know about Flowmasters. So, next time someone starts a new thread about one particular kind of exhaust, Magnaflow included, unless they ask about more than one particular kind of exhaust I suggest you keep you DAMN comments to yourself.

 

Hey there JohnBoy88 I had a FM on my 5.4 for about 3 years and when I took it off last week it was still in pretty good condition It hadnt rust through at all. Pretty decent for the 80 bucks I paid for it. Sounds real good 2, but not 2 loud. Hope this helps

 

Wow you Flowmaster boys really have an inferiority complex there don't you. It's OK, I understand. I had Flowmasters on my current truck as well as my last one. I didn't believe a word about Magnaflows until I experienced it for myself, first on my girlfriend's truck and then on mine. SO before you get all whiney about how you like your Flowmasters and people drink the Magnaflow Kool-Aid, try them out for yourself. Or, you could just keep sticking your head in the sand about it and telling everyone who doesn't agree with you to shut up. Now, that is progress. Good job!

 

You still can't face the fact that the guy wants Flowmasters and not Magnaflows. Now I have admitted that maybe there is a bit better performance when you are talking about Magnaflows vs. Flowmasters. But, if the guy says that he wants Flowmasters he don't want Magnaflows and visa versa.

I also say that you are full of @#$% if you say that you can feel the "performance" difference when you push the accelerator with different aftermarket exhaust no matter what the name brand.

I just want to say that it all comes down to personal preference. And also if Flowmasters are junk then why are they one of the most popular brands of aftermarket exhaust. They must be doing something right.

 

you magnaflow guys must be the ones with the inferiority complex, you have to go on threads about how great flowmasters are just to stir up trouble becuase you are pist about how you paid double the price for a exuast that doesnt sound as good(IMO) and i have had flowmasters on almost all my vehicles and never had any rust, if somebody asks about magnaflows than you can chime in, you have a great day i am going to go start up my truck to hear that great flowmaster rumble

 

If us Flowmaster boys have an inferiority complex then why don't you see us chiming in on Mangaflow posts starting **** about how Flowmaster is better? And like Tbizzle said, 99.999999% (+/-) want the sound! Which is why I went with Flowmaster. I've heard Magnaflows before and I didn't like the way they sound. Also, the price I payed for my exhaust was unbeatable. People still can't believe what I payed. And it's not some Kool-Aid exhaust either, it's fully Mandrel bent (not crimped) and also 100% welded. And with the money I saved by switching to Flowmaster, I bought a new air intake.
