Bigtruck, I'm very tempted to take you up on your request. I think a set of dyno charts in a sticky up top will settle it for everyone (at least those worried about performance). Let me see how the $$$ are looking after the holidays. I'd like to do a few mufflers too on the same truck, same day, same dyno, etc. Magnaflow, single chamber Flow, single chamber IMCO, 40 Series Flow, Pro series IMCO. All the same pipe diameter. All the same configuration (SI/SO). That would be sweet. Now we just need to get some people to donate mufflers to you. As I said, after the holidays I could probably come up with the cash and send you a Magnaflow. I'm serious about this. I'm not a big fan of Troyer but he seems to know his stuff, and he says there is positive gains with Magnaflow throughout the RPM range. I'm curious to see if he's right. Maybe someone has a stock muffler they can send over too for a baseline?

now we are on the same page brother, we can use my vehicle as the test vehicle i have SISO 3" pipe, i already have the single chamber super 40, i also have a 3 chamber 50 series, is your magnaflow welded in? if not we can just use it for that day and then put it back on, i will even weld it back on if you came down here, we should also try straight pipe to see what type of loses we get, i have been wanting to do this for awile, i think alot of people are going to be serprised with the results(hope its not me), i will also try to get a stock muffler i will have to scale down the pipe to fit the 3", also my truck is highly modded so the results we see wont be tipical of a stock truck, i am glad we are seeing eye to eye, lets make this happen

Absolutely man. This will be cool. And if I'm wrong, I will concede every time someone asks a question about Flowmasters! Where in California are you at? I might be able to come down for a day sometime but if not I will ship you a Magnaflow! I don't mind putting some money in if it will help everybody out. I am thinking about picking up an IMCO to send you as well. I am curious to see which chambered muffler flows better, the Flowmaster or the IMCO.

I have the 50 series with si/do. Nice sound, without the drone inside the cab. The loyalty shown here to different types of mufflers is interesting. I don't expect any horsepower increase, as I very seldom go WOT. Just like the sound of the Flowmaster. I have heard all of the others, just a matter of money. More rumble for the money I suppose. Hopefully the dyno will tell the tale in the end.

Good luck.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to agree with you on that one.

I bought the truck for $12,900 with 84,000 miles on it from one owner. The guy who previously owned it had Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which means that the truck was cleaner and better taken care of than a new truck...not a scratch on it and the inside was imacculate. And, just because he thought I was a nice kid, he bought four brand new BFG Radial Long Trails for it! I took that picture, among others, when I first got the truck for my 16th birthday (like a year and two weeks ago). I'm gonna post a picture from another angle.

By the way, judging by the way my truck looks (it still looks just like that), would you go with the flat exhaust tips or the pointy exhaust tips? I don't know what they are actually called.

Thanks.

They're slash cut. I have them and it's what I'd go with. Along with a FLOWMASTER.

Help please

Okay, now that you guys have helped me pick the kind that I need, I can't for the life of me find any on the internet cheaper than around $199. I have had SEVERAL people tell me that I can order them off the internet for like $30 and just pay for installation.

Please, if anyone can find the Flowmaster 40 series 3" or above slash cut system for a great bargain, please let me know! I really want these but I can't end up paying $300 total after shipping and installation.

Thanks!

I'd go with a 2 1/2" system, you'll lose less low end and it'll be easier to find.

I will not debate on which muffler is better, etc, blah, blah... I will say that most (like 95%) of aftermarket cat-back bolt on kits come with a life time warranty IF, & an IMPORTANT IF, you get the stainless steel version. That's the main reason I chose to use an aftermarket kit instead of a local muffler joint hack job. ALL the local joints around here use cruch-bent aluminized pipe, not SS. If I were in your shoes, and you're looking to keep that truck looking as good as new, spend the extra $$$ and get a SS kit.

If you decide against that & settled on Flowmasters, go to any Meinikie and they install them with tips for about $300-$400 (which is how much a SI/SO SS aftermarket kit costs as well) for a SI/DO system.

You mentioned warranty... If you want a lifetime warranty from a low priced muffler, check out: www.dynomax.com Meinikie should carry them as well. I used Dynomax muffler on my autocrossing car & both of my drag cars in Germany with no issues.

KC-10 FE out...

Flowmaster Power!!!!!!!!!

Well I gotta add my two cents. This Magnaflow vs Flowmaster debate is funny. I have a 3 chamber Flowmaster and love the sound, I dont know what series it is. It has a nice rumble at low speeds that wakes up when you punch it. Correct me if I am wrong but I do believe Flowmaster has been around for the longest length of time. I had never heard of Magnaflow until I started reading the forums here and a couple of other F150 sites. If you want it to sound good then go with Flowmaster. As for the performance gains, I dont think a muffler is gonna create a noticeable gain or loss in my opinion. Flowmaster is synonymous with beefy v8 sound.

I had a Flowmaster SIDO installed at a muffler shop. I think it was the 40 series, but not certain. I love the sound on my 5.4 and the horrible drone people talk about at highway speeds is just not there. I have the 2 1/2 inch pipe with 3" tips that are 18 inches long and angle cut. I paid $225 for the set up and am totally satisfied.

I purchased a SI/DO cat back system with a Full Boar muffler. To me Full Boar sounds better than the Flowmaster or Magnaflow but opinions vary. The muffler, exhaust pipes (custom bent) and 18" chrome tips cost $195 installed. The muffler goes for about $50 and it really sounds great. My neighbor had the same set up as I did but he went with Flowmaster, purchased his about the same I purchased mine. When he heard mine he liked the sound better and ordered the Full Boar for his.

The best thing to do is listen to other's exhaust systems, when you find one that sounds good to you, ask what they are using. That's how I came across the Full Boar, not too many people have heard of them but I came across an F150 that sounded really good to me and asked what they were using.
