'01 5.4

Hey Guys,
I'm in the market for a new exhaust. It seems the MagnaFlos are the favorite around here. I've been reading posts for the last few nights and it gets confusing. People are posting that the FlowMasters are louder or Dyno is louder, but there are several choices with each company. So a 50 Delta Series isn't going to be the same as an Imco Xtreme. Some of these comparisons don't add up.
Here's my setup. I have an '01 5.4 sCrew 4x4 with a K&N. I leave for work at 5:15am and don't want to wake all the neighbors but I would like to know somethings there. I also tow a camper so I need the low end. I really like the look of dual outs. Two rolled stainless tips out the back would look sweet. I understand I should replace the "Y" pipe. Should I take out the "Y" and go DI/DO or is that going to be louder? I have read that longer tips will make it louder. Is this true? I also read 2.5 out is the best way to keep low end in FlowMasters. Is that the case with all companies? I'm 38 not 18 so I just want a little rumble.
After this is done I'm calling M. Troyer for tunes. So any cash I can save will be well spent later.
Remember it's an '01 5.4 Thanks in Advance

I would go with magnaflow its quiet but loud enough to know its back there and it gives you the most power. You should do a sisi or sido. Hope this helps.

If you want to save some change why don't you buy a DI/DO muffler and go to a muffler shop and have them fab you a system up? You could save possibly around 200 bucks. Just an idea

I was gonna have a shop build it up anyway. I think I will have to have that "Y" cut off. Is the DI/DO gonna be to loud though? I'm thinking 50 Delta by FlowMaster for just a soft rumble. But will I loose low end torque?

I hear you on the MagnFlo. But witch model? I don't want it to resonate as I'm on the highway about an hour and a half a day @ 70mph.

If you are going to have a shop build it up then just buy the muffler, and magnaflows seem to be the fav around here, I went with the IMCO's, but thats because I like loud, guess I'm still a young whipper snapper. But loudness is determined by what muffler you get, go to the magnaflow website and you can get part numbers, and they give a brief description of the sound I do believe. Hope this helps

Exhaust

I just got a local shop to do my truck, a 2001 ext. cab 5.4l 4x4. I'm not sure what series, but it is a flowmaster and it is not too loud, just right. I got 3 1/2 inch stainless duals out of the side like the lightenings. Total was $275 and I think that is they way to go, but make sure you find a good shop with a good rep. for welding and exhaust work.
