Muffler Question: HELP

Hello.. First time Ford owner here (Just bought my 03 Sport 5.4) and new to the forum.

I was just wondering if many people just went with a muffler opposed to a whole new exhaust system. I am looking to go the budget route while trying to make my truck sound deeper. I definatly do not want to gimp my truck in any way, what is a good muffler to have welded on my stock system that makes a 5.4 sound great? Also I plan on getting a K&N air intake system along with a muffler.
Any good intake/muffler combo's out there for sound quality (not hillbilly loud)???

Any and all replies are appreciated, TY for your time.

I just got mine re-done, 2001 150 screw 5.4l, 4x4. I have a flowmaster with 3 1/2 inch stainless duals out of the side like the lightenings. Sounds great and is not to loud, but I don't know what series. Instead of buying an exhaust setup or just a muffler, find a good local shop with a good rep that does welding and exhaust work. Ask if they have a truck already done so you can hear what it sounds like. Make sure you get stainless steal tips if you go with the full exhaust. Mine cost me $275 and is great.

I've got the Borla PRO XS 3" Single inlet/Dual 2-1/2" outlets. I bought the muffler off EBAY new for about a $100 then had a local shop do the tail pipes. Make sure they know what they are doing though...Finally got mine the way I wanted it. Like mentioned...GET Stainless Tips. Only draw back about muffler shops is that most are not mandrel bent tubing. Cuts down on your exhaust flow. The Cat-back systems look better but more $$$. Just according what your intentions are. I may redo mine and get mandrel bent exhaust since I'm installing a charger.
Here is Borla's Web...Check out there sound bits...http://www.borla.com/

Lots of choices and lots of opinions. I originally just replaced the factory muffler with a Flowmaster and from that point on, just wanted to do more. That seems to happen the more you read the posts on this site. Oh well.
Ended up replacing the factory Y-pipe with dual 2 1/2" pipes into a DI/SO
Flowmaster with single 3" tailpipe. Suited my purpose and budget. Happy with the results.
