I went with the Extreme Series 1-chamber muffler off www.performance-curve.com. It cost me $35.99 for the muffler. It is 3 inch SI/SO. I had my shop bend me up a 3 inch pipe from the muffler to behind the rear tire into a 24x3.5 inch angle cut tip and it sounds great. It's very loud and deep but still smooth. People ask me all the time what I have on there. Definitely turns heads.

yeah but i'd rather not get into the whole take it to a shop and stuff rather just get it bolt it on and be done with it... i really want true duals but that'd cost a pretty penny..and have to deal with the shops..

Yeah, the shop is the way to go. They aren't expensive and they do a fine job. By the way, with true duals you will lose some low end. A 3 inch SI/SO system is the best way to go with these trucks for maintaining low end while still enjoying the other gains of the exhaust.

Fourpointsix,

when I did a search for an IMCO system, this is what the website presented:

http://www.grabthepower.com/cars_new...yno_Only=False

is this a good purchase and if not, could you provide part numbers for the 3" SI/SO?

I like the sound of the IMCO single chamber, is the 3" SI/3"SO the same size as the output pipe from the stock Y Pipe?

Does anyone know what the DIA. of the stock Lightning Tips are? because I think if thats a 3" pipe as well, then that might be a great solution as well for the out pipe.

Also, is there anything wrong with using a 3SI/3SO and then splitting the out to dual exhaust? Would that still retain the correct back pressure to keep your low end?

This is my Daily driver, and I use it to pull trailers too, so I need to ensure that my towing ability is not affected by this, actually, I am hoping that reducing the pressure a some like this may help?

What does everyone else think. Oh, and this is on a 2001 with a 4.6/auto with tow package....

Thanks in advance!!

Hey guys, there aren't any part numbers that I know of. I had my exhaust custom made at a shop. I just bought the muffler. As far as towing, as long as you don't mind loud exhaust it will be fine, and it will flow better than stock. The stock pipe size out of the Y is 2.5 inches.

Hey fourpointsix, how much did it that set up cost you? I'm looking to do the same.

No matter what you do, get rid of the factory Y-pipe set up first, then everything that follows will be worth it. Go duals to a dual inlet muffler or, for extra cost, use an X or H pipe into single mufflers and dual tail pipes. Using the dual inlet muffler eliminates the cost of an X or H pipe and then you can go with a single outlet muffler to a 3" tailpipe. Gotta get the best bang for your buck, unless you have a really fat wallet.

The professor, mine was $35.99 for the muffler. With shipping it was $47.88. The muffler shop cost me $140, so my total was just about $190.
