Single or Double Exhaust Pipes.

Okay I've got this 01 F-150 screw and right now have the truck bed off for some body work I'm doing, I was looking at the headers and I have never seen rusting like this, almost looks like a flakey apple pie about to crust apart. Since I bought it as a salvage vehicle, I thought the original owner may have been from up north where they lay out salt for the winter, but after reading these threads this sounds like a standard thing for the F-150. On this vehicle they previous owner put in a y split on the exhaust system for dual exhaust or did it come like that off the factory? Also the when I re-built my 85 Bronco II engine I went with the edelbrock headers with a flow master mufler? I dont see much talk about edelbrock headers for the 5.4L engine? anyone using these headers on the 5.4L and why would I would dual exhaust with what looks like these cheesy glass pacs. I was thinking of eldebrock with flowmaster mufflers and maybe a little wider diameter single muffler exhaust pipe? Anyone?

General consensus is a single 3 inch system yields the best results on these trucks. I hear header installs on them is a nightmare.
