Effect of Dualing a SISO Magnaflow?
My 2004 5.4L is getting a new exhaust tomorrow. After reading through a ton of threads I've decided to go with Magnaflow. Called them today to get a recommendation for the truck and the technician said going with a SISO (5" x 8" x 18" with 3" inlet & outlet) would give better low-end torque than using a SIDO setup.
What I should have asked, and didn't, is what happens if I dual the exhaust pipe after it comes out of the muffler?
I don't know for sure that I'm going to do that. I might just put a dual tip on the end of the pipe but then again I like the looks of a dual exhaust. Can I get the torque benefit of the SISO rig and still have the dual look, or will that screw something up too?

I ordered a SISO Magnaflow exhaust for my 2004 Supercab Lariat.
I did notice I slight improvement in overall performance and the appearance of the muffler and tailpipe is great. However I do notice just a slight drop in torque when I am cruising. It doesnt have that same thrust it once did with the stock exhaust. I dont know if its because of the added noise or maybe just my imagination. I also added an Airaid Intake at the time of installation. The truck sounds great. I did notice just slight droaning when the tach reaches about 2KRPM but its not excessive.
As for your question, I do belive that you are taking your exhaust to be professionally installed if you want the SIDO with the SISO Kit. I installed mine myself. I personally like the look of "stock" better than dual out the back bumper. Anything can be done if you have the proper machinery and I dont believe it will hurt your performance if you stick with the SISO muffler. The only issue would be to make a "Y" to split the "out " portion of the muffler and make new pipes. In which case you might just want to buy the muffler and not the entire "bolt-on" kit.
In any case, I hope that you enjoy your exhaust, it will sound great and will give the engine that better "flow" it needs. Let me know how it turns out.

Anything you do after the muffler has little affect...if you want the looks of duals, add the extra pipe...I'm thinking the same thing..will have to be a muffler shop to do of course but they do this sort of thing all the time.
