Glass packs have high flow rates because they are a straight-through design. Yes, higher than chambered Flowlasters. Flowmaster recently began offering a stainless steel muffler, but most on the road are mild steel which rots out from the inside in several years. Typical "no name" glass packs are mild steel as well and their "unique" sound is most commonly chosen by those who don't know better, older gentlemen in rural areas, and the mullet crowd in southern states. Better than both would be a stainless steel, straight-through design, flow and sound engineered muffler from a reputable company.

hey now my old gmc mud truck had true dual no cats and just glasspacks:P it wrapped like hell,... but it is true i would jsut go with a quality muffler that will sound good and last along time. i have had flowmaster 40 series for 4 years with no trouble soi wont complain about them at all. love their sound but its more of a you should try to hear a couple before you buy thing.

Thread Hijack Alert-

www.mulletlovers.com

Click a couple of the choices over in the orange area for a few laughs.

Back to exhaust...This is even listed at the website under tips: "warning sign that may indicate a Mullet is near"....."A Camaro, 'Vette, El Camino, Ranchero or Nova with glasspacks"

i see nothing wrong with glasspacks, and I know better. Good sounding mufflers are cool and im all for them, but glasspacks are just awesome sounding. The really high rappy kind arent too bad, but nothing beats the growl of an old small block chevy with deep-tone glasspacks....

So, you're attempting to dispel the glass pack stereotype with congruous sentiment while your profile lists your handle as "Rebel" from Missouri/Mississippi interested in trucks/sports/ beer and working as a construction worker???

"If you are part of or happen to know of an entire Mullet family (we saw one eating at Target once) that would be the diamond in the rough and greatly appreciated."

anyway..

I can see one benefit to having glasspacks, they're cheap. Your everyday run-of-the-mill glasspack will set ya back about $20/ea. Heck that's only 6 or 7 cans of skoal!!

to each their own.

well i used to have a 90 ranger with a cherry bomb glass pack and it sounded nice for a lil V6 now i own a 1996 1/2 ton with a 302
i put a cheap turbo muffler on it cuz i thought that a high flow cherry bomb may make it burn valves does anyone accually factually know if it will burn the valves cuz i want it louder

glass packs are louder

dude glass packs are not as loud at first, but they get louder over time, and they do have a unique sound. i would go with glasspacks, but flowmaster is also a good choice.

i see it pointless to ask a ? about loudness and tone of an exhaust on here. not to bash it or anything the site is great but there are soooo many differant opinions on here that you will never get a majority vote on this subject. maybe if were lucky we can start a thread that inclues everyones exhaust description WITH a sound clip attached. Im going to try to get mine recorded with in the next couple of days so if no one else starts a thread by then i will start one.

Also known as an overpriced chunk of steel bought by exhaust snobs who think they know better.

One can buy a small aluminized Magnaflow muffler for $60. What is better for cheaper?

Hamlet- "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
This is for those with a formal education.

For the rest, this is a brief synopsis of Gary42141's limited posts:
As an admitted "Hillbilly" from Kentucky in his forties, he lives where a turkey's commonplace is the side of the road. After he removed his "stainless steel" muffler and replaced it with true dual straight pipes, it still wasn't loud enough to scurry the turkeys away from being massacred with the front of his truck (good eating I'd imagine). Yes, we all know..."awesome sound and no loss of power". I guess the original stereotyping criteria fit quite well for the straight pipe crowd as well.
