question about exhuast

i'm fairly new here and have been reading for a couple weeks now. i'm bouncing around on the idea of getting an exhuast. most of the threads i read says that exhuast will not help the gas mileage and the improvement to the performance is minimal. would a complete upgrade in the exhuast system be that much different that just swapping the muffler (magnaflow) as far as performance goes? i know having two pipes sticking out the back looks pretty cool, but it's also 5 times as much. so if the performance is nearly the same, then i will just get the muffler and probably have it dumped under the truck.

thanks for any opinions

I put the Banks Monster Power cat-back system on my truck and saw a 1MPG increase with a very noticable increase in power. Ask SHTRDAVE, he bought it from me. I switched to a Gibson SI/SO cat-back and now I get 1.9MPG more than stock. The Gibson doesn't make the power the Banks did but I still get better mileage which was my goal. I like having the power, but I wanted the mileage increase more than anything else.
