04 exhuast
04 exhuast
i don't know if this has been mentioned, but did a search and couldn't find anything...
i was looking through ebay for some stuff for my super crew. i came across a magnaflow exhuast and it states it will only fit the models made before june 1st 2004, and it says that ford changed it after june 1st, is this true? i read on the forum here that the 05 and 04 are not compatible, but didn't know a later (after june 1st) 04 version was considered to have the 05 exhuast setup. being that i have a 04 f150 xlt, how will i know exactly when it was manufactured? (i just purchased it roughly a month ago)
thanks for any help
here's the link if you want to take a look at it

I believe the sticker on your drivers door will tell you the build date. To know what exhaust you have look in front of the muffler(towards the engine) if there is a "s curve" in it, it is considered an 05 exhaust. If it is straight it is 04. However, myself and a few others got the single in dual out setup to work just by cutting a few inches of pipe off. worked perfectly. also chech the "04 05 the same" thread, good info and pics of the different setup.
thanks, i will check it out. also do you recommend any exhuast? what do you have? i read on here that almost all the exhuast will decrease low end torque and only increase hp in high range rpm, but only the borla and magnaflow will increase both. is this true?
Im not sure about the Borla losing low end torque, but the Magnaflow is suppose to increase torque at any rpm range. I have the 15834 sido on mine, but I believe the best for overall performance is the siso which exits at the stock location. Both Borla and Magnaflow are great setups but you can get the Mag much cheaper
I also have the Magnaflow 15834 on my '04. I was one of the first people to purchase this exhaust, as mine was drop shipped from Magnaflow. Anyway, little did I know then that the "change" in exhaust systems had come about. What it basically is is that there are two different setups from the y-pipe back to the muffler. One setup has a longer intermediate pipe and a shorter one connected to the muffler and vise versa. The exhaust WILL fit an '04 built after June 1st, but you will have to cut the stock headpipe. As it states it will not fit vehicles made after June 1st, 2004, mine fits just fine with cutting about 6-8" off of the stock headpipe.
So you are correct, but with a quick cut, if you are willing to, that exhaust will fit just fine, at least it did on mine!

Fit on mine also, just as he said had to cut a little of stock intermediate pipe. I do not have a digital camera but maybe if one of you guys that has done this also could post a few under the truck pics it would clear this up for folks. You can get the magnaflow SIDO fior around 350-375 shipped from performancepeddler........
