headers/rtv needed?

I just purchased a set of headers and i will be installing them this weekend. I also went ahead and purchased some Felpro gaskets instead of the paper ones they come with. Is it necessary to use rtv sealant along with the gaskets? I already have some just need to know if its "overkill" or if its needed.

Do yourself a favor, grab a straight edge and check the face of the header flange, or lay the flange down on a known flat section of garage floor the check for square. Depending on the manufacturer, you may need to double up the gaskets. I would not recommend room temperature vulcanizing compound(RTV) on the flange that bolts to the head. This stuff is sort a messy. It may also damage your O2 sensors. Good luck.

it was a huge pain to install. But i think it was worth the trouble. I dont have a dyno or anything but i can feel an improvemnt both in low and top end. Only problem I have is i still have a slight leak at the egr fitting since is doesnt line up right. I just cant seem to get it tight enough. I just got a check engine light the other day and i think that leak may have caused a problem. To install them i had to remove the inner fender wells and it took alot of patience to get them in.
