Question Factory exhaust

I was wondering if anyone knew how restrictive the factory exhuast is on a 2001 5.4 liter SuperCrew. I am going to get a Flowmaster cat-back dual exhuast system put on my truck tomorrow and wanted to know approx. how much power will be gained. It's going to be 2 1/4" pipe, btw. Thanks.

from what I understand it is VERY restrictive. But that's not it. I also gained some knowledge from some VERY helpful members here.

"Jordon not mike" said, that the Y in the exhaust is a cheap fix and it is prob one of the most restrictive parts in the exhaust system...

So I am looking into replacing mine asap.

Welcome neighbor ! Yes, it's restrictive under heavy throttle. Opening the exhaust up will yield a nice performance increase, but you won't find exact dyno results here often.

Put a new y-pipe on there while you're at it. They're only like $30, the factory one really chokes-down inside... I could barely put a finger thru the opening on mine.

Just tell them to replace the y-pipe. You can pick one up your self for around $30 - I know magnaflow makes one becuase I used to have one.

They should have one, or be able to get one. If not, call Troyer performance or another vendor who carries Magnaflow. They'll have what you need.

Y-pipe will optimize flow so that the interior diameter of the tubing is the same thru-out, it won't open things up beyond what the rest of the tubing is.

Does the Y pipe on the 04's and 05's have the same problem?
