Talking K&N exhaust installed

Just had my K&N exhaust installed this morning and I LIKE!!! Not to loud, not to quite, just right. It should get a little louder once it burns in but it is right where I wanted it. I had a small shop do the install. Cost me $65, a little more I thought but Hey this is CA. The install was pretty simple and straight forward. The only hard part was removing the old muffler at the head pipe and the K&N didn't quite match up and there was a little exhaust leak, but nothing a little welding didn't fix. Everything else went together flawlessly. It is a quality system. It was the first time the mechanics saw a K&N exhaust and they were impressed. They all gathered around like one of those Fram Filter commercials. I bought the exhaust from RV Performance for $400(sale). I can definitely feel the seat of the pants power it puts out. I only have a few miles on it but I haven't detected any dron at highway speeds.

Congrats on the exhaust. you may not get a drone like I did. With the expy it most likely radiates up through the rear seating area. I do like the way it is made though. Workmanship is excellent.

Well I have over 300 miles on it now. It seems to have gotten a little louder. It is a little louder than I had expected but right in the noise range that I was looking for. This is my first performance exhaust so I am new to this game. The only drone I can detect is cruising around town when in the 2000 rpm range. On the highway, when it kicks into Overdrive I don't detect anything. I also have dynamat on my back wall and floor. I am sure that it helps out. Might be a suggestion if you are keeping the exhaust. It does get expensive quick though. The power gains are great, Even better then I expected.

I had it done at Mason's. It is a small shop off Palm Ave in Imperial Beach. A little bit of a drive from Poway. I tried a Midas shop but they want $140 for the install. I told them to stick it. I am fairly new to the area so I don't know that many good shops to recommend to you. Some guys at work told me about this place and I was real happy with their work.

I also have the K&N exhaust on my truck. I know it's a new system, but I can't believe more people aren't talking about it on here. The sound is great, it looks cool, it's very well built, it's easy to install (took me about an hour), and it feels like a pretty significant increase in power (no loss of low end power). I got mine for about $400 at truckperformance.com.

Yes I couldn't agree more. I am extremely happy with it. It is a great system. I also noticed that I am getting about 1.0 to 1.5 mpg increase with the exhaust. I saw it for sale at RVPerformace.com for $325. Can't beat that price for a stainless steel exhaust. I would recommend it to anybody.

Congrats on the Exhaust systems guys. I'm just curious as to where you got the K&N Exhaust and why as they have already discontinued making them?

Hey guys, I read all the posts I could find on the K&N exhaust and decided to order one. I got the FIPK I ordered at the same time but no exhaust. I called Truckperformance.com and they said it was discontinued and refunded my money. So I started looking around for someone that still had one on the shelf and wanted to sell it. I found a place in AZ that had one and I should have gotten it last week. I was out of town and had it shipped to the office. I'm excited to get it installed after all the posts I have read on it. I also e-mailed K&N to verify if they did stop production on the exhaust and they replied about 5 days later with a statement that said "We are dropping that line of products and going in the direction that we have made our name in" I assumed that meant air filters and such.

The place I got it from in AZ had two on the shelf but ended up sending me a kit for a chevy (ugggg). It went back the next day. I have not seen the kit for the ford, but if it is anything like the wrong one they sent me it is going to be great. All stainless, huge exhaust tip and well constructed. I cannot wait.

I can only figure that they did not get the response to the systems like they had hoped and just decided to cut their losses. $400 is not that much money to pay for a full stainless exhaust system. I guess there are too many other players out there in the cat back exhaust game and people went with what they knew and did not want to try anything new. I was questioning it myself until I read the all posts from this board and other places.

Thumbs up

Yep, K&N got out of the exhaust business.

For that price range, unless the K&N is 304 SS and you think that's what you need, Gibson's is in the range on the high side. I got mine on sale at www.truckperformance.com and paid about $270 for SS Swept Side. I think the K&N is louder that the Gibson so if sound is what you're loking for, Gibson Swept Side really isn't it.
