Has anyone experienced a loss of any power with true duals and 30 inch glasspacks? I used aluminized packs and pipes 2 1/4 inch for all. Does anyone have any specific performance/mileage gains with this setup? I only had the truck a week before this setup, so don't have any specifics. I put in a basic K&N filter at the same time and reset the computer, and it "feels" better, but is probably phychological.

When I did mine I went with 24" packs and I noticed quite a bit more power. More so on the high RPM, but I think I got more on low end as well. Also gained about 1.5 Mpg better mileage. I couldn't be happier.

Hey POLARISGUY sorry I did not respond earlier. I did not experiance any low end power loss. I also have 24" glass packs I hade the shop install a balance tude aprox. where the pipes y used to be. Do you have the balance tube? I heard that it is a good idea. As for the MPG I actually lost about 1mpg but I think that is do to my driving habits changing, I like to hear the pipes ROAR! I did notice a moderate power gain 2500rpm and up.

I don't know what a balance tube is, but yes, I have the 4.6 with 30 inch 2 1/4 diameter tubes. I haven't noticed any lowend performance and the muffler guy recommended this setup, and he has been in the business for 20 years. Now I wonder if I should get a "balance tube"?

Polarisguy, you didn't say what size motor you have. If you have this set-up on a 4.2 or a 4.6 you probably opened it it too much. They need a little back pressure at low rpm to keep up the torque.

I have the exact same setup and it definitely added power. I have a balance
tube (H-pipe?) about two feet back from where the pipes route back from the cats.
If this guy has been in the business for
20 years,he probably put one in,but check
anyway, just to be sure. It helps cut down
on reversion by creating a balance between the two sides of the engine. ,,,98

Not sure how the balance tube works but they say its good for about 15hp in some cases. All it is is a tube that is placed between the two seperate pipes, I think it equilizes the pressure in both banks.

I just read your message and I can say that I feel the same with my f150. I have a 99 flare side w/ the 4.6 also. I had a shop change my exhaust out to duals with 31" glasspacks and although I like the sound, I would swear that I actually lost power. My best friend has a 97 long bed (smae motor) and the same shop did his with 24" gpks and he didn't notice any loss of power. We both have 2 1/4" pipe too. The only real difference is his has a little longer pipe due to the length of the bed. Have you gotten any resolutions for the problem yet? Tried an H-pipe? I would really appreciate any info you may have found.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Went back and had the balance pipe put in. Much improvement, and called the guy up and recommended he not install another setup like this without one. Didn't change the sound much, but did smooth out the powerband. Looking back, buying a "tuned" system, such as Borla (if you've got the cash) is probably the way to go, since there was some research put into it.
