Question which Flowmaster??

I installed a Flowmaster 3" side exit exhaust on my 5.4 Crew Cab SuperDuty. I think it has a "70 Series" muffler..

Anyway, it sounds like I have an "RV exhaust" on it, in other words, it flows nice, but it's too darn quiet! I finally have a V-8, but it sounds like an old fart's Winnebago! (No offense to any old farts! )

So, tell me, I am going to replace the current muffler with either a 40 or 50 series Flowmaster. I would like a nice (loud) sound when I get on it, but want to keep it reasonable at cruising velocity. Which one's best for me?

Thanks!

Cool

Ike, I am also debating between the 40 and 50 series muffler. I heard the 40 series a couple months ago, and I forgot what it sounded like. I remember liking it. Let me know which one you go with and what you think of it?

What are railfans?

NSS: "Railfans" are the crazy fools who will get up at the crack of dawn to drive 300 miles, just to see a train and get a picture of it at a location we have never been before. We will also sit in the same place for an entire evening, and simply watch the trains go by. Some of us work for the railroad, others wish they did, others could care less. We range from old to young. We LIKE the smell of diesel locomotive exhaust, and we drive Fords!

In other words, we like to watch, chase and photograph trains.

I guess I should have been able to figure that out by looking at your site more. I thought it was some kind of a fan for the rail road industry that you manufactured. Thanks for the info.

Go with the 40 series. I have the 50 series, and although it sounds nice, it's not nearly loud enough when I stand on the go-pedal.

Kelly: I only needed one person to suggest the 40 because it's loud, now I can justify buying it! Thanks!

I ran no muffler at all for a long time. The sound was border line to loud. Highway speeds produced a little too much cab noise. Truck ran very strong and for around town it was great. Now I have a 50 series 3 chamber and 4.10 gears. The sound is just right for highway speed and just a little melow for around town. The 40 series will be great around town but if you spend alot of time on the highway and like to talk alot then eventually the 40 series could get on your nerves. Not to mention any riders you might have with you. Think about the 50 series. Long term I think they get a little louder.

I have the 40 series, one in, two out the back. I really like it alot. It's not that loud at all, it does have a nice rumble at idle an a nice growl with cruising, but I believe if you're looking for something throaty the 50 will be much too quiet, my buddy has one and he wants to get rid of it and get a 40.

Get the 40, it's great and loud. It sounds like a truck should. Click here to listen to my 40 series: http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/ponysix8/images/T005.wav
