catalitic converter removal

I have a 97 F-150 4.6L. When my engine is ideling, I hear rattling coming from my catalitic converters. I'm thinking that the easiest way to stop the noise is to remove the cats and weld glasspack mufflers in their place. The truck already has duel exhaust. However, I was wondering, "Will the engine still run right without catalitic converters giving backpressure?"

Thanks!
Josh

They are probably shot and need to be replaced. Removing the cats is a Federal offense. Get some high-flow units installed.

Check for loose heat shields. There is no reason to replace them with glasspacks whatever the problem may be.

go with the hi flow models, they will give you more power, you can stay legal, and they give your exhaust a better tone. If you just remove them your trucks CEL will come on, and you will probably running to rich because your O2 sensors arent getting true readings.
