I have had my exhaust coming out before the rear wheel for 8000 miles now with no apparent discoloration to the rim or cap. I noticed on my friends '97 that his cap was turning green but just on certain spots. I also noticed that his caps are different than mine. They seem to "wrap around the lug nuts more". Mine seem much more rounded. Are the caps different on the '97? How about 16" vs. 17"?? Will mine tarnish with time??

I am now at 47800 miles and almost 4 years with a before the rear wheel exit. No problems. Everything is shiney as new. I do not know why some have it and some don't. My theory is that there is a clear coat on the wheels that has been either damaged after new by cleaning with caustic cleaners or it was not put on right in the first place. Or both sometimes.

30,000 miles on aftermarket wheels and a before the wheel exhaust exit. No marks at all. Wheels are cleared though. Probably has a lot to do with it.
