I am researching duel exhaust
I'm back.
OleFordHead,
Yes I did get my system done. I ended up having a cat back system installed at a local shop. I put on a Dynomax Race Magnum muffler after the converter and they bent 2 1/4' dual pipes out the back to 3 1/2" stainless cans. The shop guy insisted that spending the extra money for 2 1/2" pipe would not make a difference on the 4.6 worth noticing. I still wonder if that is true. It does sound good. Like a Stang Cobra. The Race Magnum was louder than a Super Turbo and much healthier. It's definitely not to loud. The shop let me hear after cutting off my old muffler with it straight out of the converter. Then he tried each of the Dynomax mufflers. I haven't heard a Flowmaster to compare to. I would like to hear other one to compare with mine. Overall I am pretty happy with what I ended up with. They did a nice and clean job. The stainless cans are a nice touch and needed up here in Minnesota.

I just want to put my two cents in. It all depends on where you want to increase your power, low RMM's or Higher RPM's.
In my last truck a 1993 Lightning I put on equal length headers, two flowmaster mufflers with 3 inch pipes, after driving it I found out I reduced my back pressure to much. The truck had more power at higher RPM's while lost power at lower RPM's.
So I replaced the pipes after the mufflers to 2 1/2 pipes, then my low end power was much better, as well as the higher RPM power.
With small block engines, you still need some back pressure, if you wish to retain your low end power, and how often do you drive over 4000 rpm's anyway.
On my new f-150 I just ordered a Bassani single cat back systems. It should give me more power and millage in the RPM range that I will be using most often.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Don

don, yep thats one of the things i'm worried about, loosing the bottom end. rather than going to true duals i'm thinkin i'd be better off buying a cat back system and headers. i dont like the forward of the rear wheel exit though. i'd still like "duals" out the back. whats the bassini gonna run ya anyway?
Old Ford Head
It cost me $409.00 at http://www.racesearch.com
It exits our in the stock position behind the rear wheel. I will let you know how it works out, should have it installed by next weekend.

I had a local shop put my true dual exhaust on and they too let me start the truck up after cutting off the exhaust after the aft oxy sensor. Sounded just like the good old days...
They cut the "Y" pipe and custom bent the new pipes into place welding and putting seven hangers into place. I picked 36" glass pipes along with the 2 1/2" aluminum coated pipes all the way out the back with 3 1/2" chrome resonator tips. The installer guy said this would keep enough back pressure for low end torque that is usually loss when opening the exhaust up. The guy who did this took his time and was careful to weld the piping up good and clean and paint all the joints. He said that the new Triton engines don't sound as good without mufflers as the older small block Ford engines do. I too don't want to **** off the neighbors each moring when I leave for work so I picked something that was toned down a little bit.
The only question I have for everybody is this guy did not put in a "H" pipe. Is this necessary and what does it do?
