Post exhaust systems?

I was curious, which would be better for mileage and horsepower? Straight pipes or glasspacks? I read where a flowmaster gets better mileage. Would straight pipes do it too?

Hmmmm...I'd be cautious about running straight pipes. You might wind up being driven crazy by the noise (not to mention attracting the attention of cops). I was told by the muffler shop that did my install that you lose very little with a true dual system and a quality set of mufflers. This is a first rate shop and these guys know what they are talking about. Consider an install like that and then add headers if you are looking for more power. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Thumbs up

Indigo: Check my stats: I did mine because everyone else I know has theres on Chevy's, so being me, I thought that it would be cool to be different and try it on a ford. I just didnt know/believe that it added 20 x-tra horsepower. My biggest worry was backpressure, but one of my best friends is a performance engine builder and he said that he thought it would be a very long time till I would suck a valve. Hope so! Thanks for the reply

Hey Pastmaster, I have seen a 4.6l w/ no mufflers, only cats. A guy at work owns the truck I talked to him and he was saying the truck has run fine no real benifit in performance, but sounds great. There were also no problems with idle etc. with truck running this setup.

Later, Akula
