Present for my girlfriend! Please Help!

Hi,

My girlfriend has a 1998 F-150 Ext. Cab w/ the 4.6 V8 in it and I want to buy her the dual exhaust parts for Christmas this year and I myself have a true Magnaflow dual exhaust setup on my Thunderbird (1997 w/ the 4.6 engine), and was wondering what would be the BEST SETUP.

She is gunning for SOUND / Looks, N O T performance. Would a 2-1-2 be better / cheaper or would a true dual setup give her the sound / looks she wants?

A guy up here wanted the same thing, so he just got his muffler off and ran some pipe out the back of his f-150.
He put a chrome tip on it, sounds mean, looks good.

Not sure if that helps or not?

If she wants a great sound, run true duals off the factory cats using 2.25" pipe all the way out under the bumper with no mufflers. Very powerful, deep sound. Ive got a buddy here at school thats got that setup on his 5.4 and it sounds mean as hell. If she wants louder, put on hi flo cat. converters made by Magnaflow. You cant get them off ebay for around 60 bucks a piece shipped. Good price!
By buddy got his duals with chrome tips done for around $210 bucks which is agood price! If its too loud or you dont like the sound, you can easily weld in a muffler/glasspack of your choice!

She doesn't want an EXTREMELY loud sound, she wants a powerful sound, that is loud, but nothing that is obnoxious. A lot of guys around here have just cut off pipes or what not, but it is just a little too loud for her taste I THINK.

She wants her tips to go straight back (not side exits) if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your help guys,

John

Sounds like the best plan for you all would be to cut outhe factory muffler and run dual tailpipes without a muffler. Its not obnoxiously loud but has a deep rumble and sounds great. If you dont like it, weld in a muffler of your choice.

by not running a muffler i'm sure she will loose low end torque. i can't see how removing the mufflers would not make the truck sound overly loud. there is no way that it would be quieter or the same as say, running a 2 chamber flowmaster. i can't say i've ever heard one without the muffler thou to really tell. you guys i'm sure have heard what they sound like i haven't. i know i wouldn't do it myself. guys that run those straight pipes i think are just out to annoy there neighbours. i live near a dirt track and i'm sure there are a few Gordon wantobe trucks/cars that pass my house at midnight after the saturday races that have straight pipes or cherry bombs. i can't see how anyone would want to drive something like that everyday without ear plugs. don't get me wrong, i love the sound of a good running V8, i've got a 69 stang running headers and dual 2 chamber flowmasters but that sounds totally different ,nice actually because i run tailpipes all the way back. just my 2 cents.

i know my wife would never stand for not having a muffler. she does like the sound of the stang and our s'crew with the magnaflow thou. good luck with whatever you decide.

Thumbs up

I've never heard a vehicle without mufflers that sounded good, just my opinion. The true duals with 2.25/ H pipe, is what I have. Exhaust exits below, actually through the rear bumper. The mufflers are 24" glasspacks, and it sounds amazing. Low burble at idle, and really sounds great at WOT It will fry the tires from a stop too, so it didn't lose that much low end torque. It may have even gained some.,,,,98

Don't let a shop tell you they can't go around the spare on the drivers side. It can be done! I also have a hitch, and they were able to do it. The spare is also a 275/60 17"
